"We've run into scorpions the size of battle tanks. Three men died from Eyerot last week and I've sweated enough to fill a lake. Emperor help me, I love this place - it's just like home!" Captain Rock commenting on Varestus Prime.
I'd say long staff but it looks overbalanced. If you could do the long staff with the head of the short one that would be better.

What sort of base does the model go on? I'm unfamiliar with Lizardmen.
The long arm looks good if you're going for a commanding sort of deal, or a casting magic sort, but without seeing him with a base or mount of some kind, it does look a little unbalanced from the pics. The short arm looks like it's well balanced, but makes the model appear to be at rest.
I know it has been a while but I am curious on whether or not you have completed this or not.
