Welcome to Librarium Online!
In order to cut costs I'm looking to scratch build about seven chimeras. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should use? I have plasticard, but I've heard others use foamcore as the base of their scratch builds.
In my head, the thing that gives me the most trouble is the treads. It would be very time-consuming to create the treads from plasticard.
Anyway, if you have any experience with this sort of thing, I'm open to suggestions.
1. Don't listen to goblin.
2. Don't hug goblin.
It would appear I learn something new everyday! While I am pretty sure I got the link I posted from here, I did not realize that it was against the rules.
I would like to step back and apologize to everyone and remind everyone as I have been reminded: Scratch building templates are bad. Don't link to them or any such fun thing.

Just so we're all clear: Linking to templates is WAY against forum rules. Please do not include any such links in future posts in this thread.
Is scratch building something that we're not supposed to talk about on LO?
Cool. With that being said, any experienced scratch builders out there care to add their two cents? Should I use foamcore to make base of the model or would it be better to create a frame somehow and glue the plasticard to that?
the only thing I know really about this are 2 things
1. find the proper tools ( for cutting and shaping plastics and poxys, and foam boards)
2. the easier the matierial is to work with the better off you are
that being said all my scratch builds have ended with me dismantling the things for parts, because it didnt look refined enough
unless you have training in drafting and graphic design and you apply those techniques, you probably wont achieve a good look with scratch built designs-- I would advise ebay, you can find some cheap good tanks there.
on forgeworld chimera's are only $27
We who have seen war will never stop seeing it....In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams....
Yeah, but I want to buy like seven of them. That's still a big chunk of change.
