While waiting for the paint to dry on my Reaver Squad ( http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...th-legion.html ) I'm trying to put together a MK1 Thunder Armour squad!
I'll be using these as Veterans in my Luna Wolves army, and at the GT in 2 months I'll be running these as a Squad of 7-8 Sternguard. Very VERY Pre-Heresy-ish!
GW however only released 1 model in this series I believe... and that one is a metal monstrosity. (model on the left)
So if I wanted some different poses I'd need to make these myself!
I started cutting up some Tactical Marine legs and tried making some for myself. I figured I'd start with only 2 and by the end-result of those descide if I'd make an entire squad or not.
Now please bear in mind that my Greenstuff-fu is very weak!
Got the greens on 2 sets of legs (hoping it still looks good once covered in paint), a start on the chest, another chest made out of chopped up MK4 armour, bit of the head and 2 shoulderpads.
The legs a bit closer
The chestplates a bit closer.
The chestplates a bit closer, different angle
So far I'm having trouble with the shoulderpads and the chestplate with the symbol on it.
The problem with the chestplate is that the symbol doesn't look that smooth, I'm kinda hoping this can be fixed by cutting away bits of GS on places where the lines are too thick and adding tiny amounts of GS where I need more volume.
Kinda hoping this evens out when I put some paint on it....
The shoulderpads are a monstrosity to make sofar... due to their different levels.
I've tried cutting up shoulderpads, creating additional levels with GS, etc... does anyone have a good idea on how to make a decent pad?
Now for the fluffjunkies... I need an existing name of a veteran squad, preferably linked to 10th company...
I know that Squad Vaddon & Squad Lachost were Chieftain squads, does this imply they are veterans? Or of any higher status than a normal Tactical squad?
Any C&C is always appreciated
This is a great idea and what you have done so far is looking good, the legs and the chestplates are looking very good, and the helmets too (good luck with the plumes, I know they will be a nightmare).
For the shoulder pads I can't think of a good way to do them due to the design... maybe layered plasticard strips? Of the ones you have the GSed one looks best, I wouldn't worry about it being bulky, afterall this is MK1 armour, updated to the current 40k scale it should look big and clanky!
I'm afraid I can't help you with the squad names at the moment, as I don't have any of my HH books to hand!
Good luck though and I will be watching this one!
Indeed i really like this very much, i always thought the mk1 power armour looked the best out of all the power armours.
Can't wait to see more of your updates.
I AM BOOMER!
For the plume, I recommend a Dark Eldar warrior head piece. Some of the warriors have hair exactly like that (probably a little smaller though). I'm not talking about the guys with the troll-cut, but the guys who look kinda like genies.
Sweet idea, consider this subscribed!
Thnx for the replies everyone!
I'm planning to have some updates online later today, The whole thing is starting to take more form now.
The plumes are not such a problem tbh, I also have a CSM army so plenty of spare heads with the plumes on top!
The shoulderpad problem is mostly fixed, I cut up a regular shoulderpad (the one that looks unfinished in the last pic, and added some greenstuff. It actually looks quite alright now
More pics when I come back from work!
O.k this kind of off topic, but what pink did you use of your E.C's?
Also this might help you luna wolves (not that you need much help ofcourse!),

My EC are Pre-foundation paints HAHA!
Started with a black undercoat and used multiple thin layers of Tentacle pink until I had a good opacity. From there on it's just adding bleach bone + Skull white to the mix for highlighting.
Small update! The model is taking shape now
I'm also working on a 3rd and 4th set of legs, these will have the thunder-symbol on the front.
Bits and pieces of a an almost complete MK1 marine! Just need to add the arms, ammo pouches, small detail, fix some minor things and add studs! Also check out the new legs in the background
From the back
#2 from the back
# frontal, with Thunder symbol on the chest!
Still got some work to do, but getting there
It's coming along very nicely. What did you use for the helmet plume?
Have some Rep.
