Do you ever get an idea into your that you just have to do? I got this idea of an eldar scheme themed to the desert and then I just had to do it.
I chose to do it on a jetbike because you get both a vehicle and a guardian. It is also about the right size for a side project. (I've had much bigger side projects before. )
As you (hopefully) can see, the scheme is essentially Vomit brown and Hawk turquoise. It's pretty close to Lyanden, I guess. I actually wanted it to not be very like Lyanden, but I'm still pretty pleased.
I really tried to go 'eavy metal on this one and I hope it shows. I highlighted with several layers of a mix of vomit brown and elf flesh and then mixed in succesively more bleached bone. On the 'hood' I also mixed in Golden yellow.
I would like to do some freehand symbol on the hood, but I'm having trouble coming up with a design I like. Any thoughts?
I might do up the base, but I have other projects that I should be doing. Unless you really want me to, I think I will let it be for now.
it would be cool if you could give it wear from all of the sand blowin around and scraping across the hood while it's driving through the desert
Wear? Nonsense, Eldar vehicles don't wear! The Techno-faeries repair them during the night in exchange for milk and cookies!
Interesting idea...Could do the wraithbone showing through on the vanes and hood. But that's where the really nice layering I did are.
But, hey, it's a frickin test piece. What better place to try new techniques?
Any ideas for a symbol? The only thing I can think of is a warp spider (the critter, not the aspect). That would work on something larger, but not on a jetbike, I think.
I unfortunately have no real idea on a rune for the nose area, aside from agreeing it definitely needs something.
But I quite like this model. Nicely painted, you can see the effort you've put in to it!
Actually... I've got an Eldar codex lying around, published in 1999 (no idea what edition it makes it...) but towards the back there's an image of an Eldar artefact with all these runes on it...
Perhaps the rune for freedom, if you rotated it 90 degrees, would look okay on the front?
Dunno, really, and I don't want to be the one to suggest something which ruins this!
That's what I wanted to hear! But I quite like this model. Nicely painted, you can see the effort you've put in to it!
I have no idea how the freedom rune looks. Do you have a picture or link you can post?
After some thinking I believe I have come up with something that is at least acceptable. I'll mull it over a little while.
Still taking suggestions though!
Well... I thought about scanning the rune from the Eldar book but I wasn't really sure I should do that.
I've sketched it... somewhat roughly, but you get the general shape of it.
In the book the rune appears with the triangle pointing upwards and the hook shape on the right... basically rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise. I left the scan as it is though because it probably makes more sense to paint it that way along the nose cone.
Just my opinion, though!
I wouldn't say too much Lyanden. And the painting looks really good. I especially like the effect the gold did to it (even if it's mostly seen on the front in the first picture).
Add too much more could destroy it all, but indeed, a rune wouldn't look bad. The one showed here abow would look quiet good.
I really like this. The colours are really smooth and well done. Nice
Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments.
And thanks to Deadstar for the rune. I don't think I will use it but it's repworthy all the same.
I think I will do just a small star in blue, either like this:
Or like this (just the star, ignore the bird and whatnot):
I keep thinking of this as the start of an army. Impulse buying models is dangerous indeed!
I think the star looks better, to be honest. Or will look better, when it's done. But the concept images look okay, so it can theoretically only get better from there!
