Why hello there LO Scenery forum.
The plan started out perfectly, I had a great idea, plenty of time. It was going to be very cool. And not even remotely orky. An elder spire. This is how I started.
I took a block of styrene foam and cut out a circle, then worked it down into the egg shape, and cut it into three sections.
Then I coated it with bondo, sweet bondo. The bondo would sand down quickly and give me a very smooth surface.
And then it did this….
so that’s not to bad… just make it a tyranid something right? But no… we have a theme here, and I can’t do it if I can’t release the “segments.” Why? Well… we will see shall we? This was botched… so I began to concoct plan B.
Alright… Same concept, only well, Sloppy and haphazard, the usual. I had a hard time finding a tube wide enough, but once I did I began. I used the same technique I did on the truckk stop to make the tank, only this time it was much larger. Then I added support struts and a base…. And sprayed it black. And that’s how it is at this very moment.
I’m going to go paint now. Maybe I’ll get done and can unveil its true magic?
I like your disaster! now that the bondo is dry is it solid? I love the effect, just have to think of a use for it!
Good luck on the tube thingy, not long to go now.
The bondo is very solid, so it may end up as something, but for the purpose of this iron chef, it was a failure.
So I put two quick coats of metal and slightly shinier metal, and painted the base.
So what’s the magic trick? Why is this valid? Why, because it’s a DICE BOX! That’s right, inside the tube is a space special designed to hold all the many dice we use when we play! How ingenious is that?
Ok ok, I should be ashamed of myself. I could have done better had I really got with it. Sorry about that. Maybe three in a row was just to much for me. Bugbait really steps it up though, and I had to at least steal a few vote from him before he gets another damn metal. =)
Maybe my next project will be outside of the iron chef format, and much large and much cleaner.
