Some buddies of mine were throwing around ideas of new playing tables and one of them was a tyranid homeworld. I know i am probably gunna get lynched for thinking about this but it is a pretty original idea. if you have any ideas no matter how weird, insane, or already mentioned i am open to hear them. and if you could mention how to make them... if you already have. But do remember this is the Tyranid homeworld so it will be to the tyranids advantage... terrain, tunnels i.e. starcraft-zergs, sky is the limit. The terrain could even be alive and cause injury..... think Craftworld for a tyranid.. a totally live world working for the tyranid hive mind.
It would be the coolest.Have massive amounts of canyons and spores eyerywhere and make sure you have a giant hive mind thing in the centre of the table. Also make it so dense with bush and strange looking plants that it almost impossible to shoot so you can get in close combat easy.It would be so funny versing a tau army
perhaps the world itself IS or holds the hive mind, in which case the nids fighting there would be extremely ferocious... Doesn't have to do much with scenery, but you could make up some special rules about that...
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
scenery that will attack the intruder, souds very nice indeed
how about some sort of carniverous plant that burst from tge ground and grabs the nearest model and swallow it whole.
or Tyranids spwaning pools
I know I'm being a fluff head and all and Im not lynching you put tyranids wouldn't have a home world, they devour worlds not hold them to advance an empire or whatever, even if they did have a homeworld it would be stripped of biomass and very very very far away say a few galaxies away?
Dispite this point I do like the idea but instead of a world why not do a hive ship? It could still have massive canyons tunnels large open spaces weird plants living forests, giant pits which are really giant mouths.. the skies the limit! pratically anything you can think up!
Ive seen one some where.. but I cant remeber where.... I do remember that there were huge plateaus (sp?) and on the walls there were these sacs of this yellow liquid with gaunts in them maybe like an egg or some ind of stasis for during the long voyages until the next world? There was large rivers, toxic lakes strangle vines the board was awesome!

How about a hatchery in a hive ship. Have a Norn Queen in a pit in the centre and 4 canyon like ramps coming up from it, have fleshy pillars with pods for resting/growing gargoyles and gaunts, some tunnels leading off the board would be needed to make it look like part of a larger ship. Maybe an area with some imperial dropships where the ships flesh has been schorched and the imperials are making a landing site.
we have completed one... 4x4' table , picture the inside of an intestine for lack of a better description. We used expanding foam picked up from a harware store and sprayed the walls. we used a laquer to give it a slimy look and even shoved som SM and orcs into it to look like there had been previos incursions. we play the board like.... starcraft. lol the tyranid player has a set amount of figs to distribute over the board then covers the board with cardboard as the other player advances he moves the "fog of war" back.
i like the idea of embryonic sacs containing sleeping nids. maybe even a "DNA reclamation" machine containing half digested humans, plants, and animals.nice i like it.Have a Norn Queen in a pit in the centre and 4 canyon like ramps coming up from it, have fleshy pillars with pods for resting/growing gargoyles and gaunts, some tunnels leading off the board would be needed to make it look like part of a larger ship.
any more ideas out there?
You could do a swamp world them. Lots of water, and grass to give it a nice look. and then because its a swamp you could do a hatchery in the center with eggs. You could have dead trees coming out of the water and it would be a cool nice slow game because you could play it as a "night mission" and you wouldn't be able to shoot much and than you got all that water slowing you down. Just like watching those war movies, its so quite and than BOOM! ....I think thats cool.... O and than you could have some of the water some type of acid water that deals damage and you could have nuetral giant insects that travel across the bored randomly acting stuff. I'm doing a bored like that only snow theme and bugs are bears and stuff.
PS: Think the movie "Alien"!
I recall....the spawning pools in the first movie, with sauromon...
You could model your nid spawning pools after orc spawning pools.
-HONORABLE MENTIONS IN BLITZKRIEG PAINTING COMP-
"THAT I.G. GUY WITH THAT OVERDEVELOPED TRIGGER FINGER"
That idea you have there is really interesting.
I especially like the ideas about the "fog of war".
It gives a very different way of thinking for the opponent, not knowing anything and then suddenly the 'nids burst from the walls...
