Has anyone else converted plastic guardsmen to desert raiders? Not necessarily going for Tallarn but desert/middle eastern feel for sure. (Ha. an american desert theme would be really neat! cowboy hats and dusters? oh man... awesome)
For basic troopers I was thinking:
file down the football helmet to allow for the addition of the head garments in green stuff.
add length to the frock coat sort of thing and point the ends of it
give some baggy sleeves to them
green stuff some cool curved knives for them
put some desert/snow goggles on some of them
canteens for everybody!
perhaps point the ends of their boots?
does anyone have any further suggestions?
I've had a plan to do this in the back of my head for a while.
I think you'd do better starting with Catachans. First, file down/shave down the muscles (unless you like that sort of thing), along with cutting off the bulky parts of the hair on the heads. Then, you can greenstuff the headwraps, tunic, and baggy sleeves all you like. Presto!
So basically start out with naked guardsmen as a base and dress him up with green stuff? Greenstuff tailor. haha. I realize either way this would be a lot of labor invested with all the green/brown stuffing, but I was thinking maybe the whole super filing down of so much of the massive buff-arse Catachans would be a pain. I suppose that would work. I think I may have try out both methods and see which results I like better.
thanks for your suggestion! I really had not even considered using the cats as a base.
I think if I do this I am going to go all out with the desert/middle-eastern sort of theme with alrahem and as many outflanking dudes as I can muster. Maybe even taking that Marbo fella and making him into some black garbed desert assassin.

I've never liked the al-rahem model, but I would draw your attention to the tallarn tank commander from Forge World. It's a nice little model, and if you can work out a way to attach some legs, he'd do nicely, I think.
The nice thing about the "full-faced" green stuff is, it almost doesn't matter what head model you start with, or from what range. As long as it's got eyes, it'll do.
thats a neat idea. Maybe an officers standing erect legs would work with that torso.but I would draw your attention to the tallarn tank commander from Forge World. It's a nice little model, and if you can work out a way to attach some legs, he'd do nicely, I think.
