Welcome to Librarium Online!
I don't have any experience magnetizing models but it's something that could really help me out. I recently discovered my Valkyries are way to big to fit in an army transport because of the wingspan (duh right?) so I had to take the wings off. Unfortunately I had already glued the wings into place because I'am THAT smart, so getting them off was...messy.
I need a way to take them on and off at my leisure for transport. I had considered pinning them but that's not going to work so well without gluing them.
Does anyone know if any magnets are small enough to be discretely placed between the wing and the hull and if they're strong enough to hold the wing on? Links to products you are sure would work would be amazing.
It doesn't have to look amazing, the whole army is an Ork Mekk theme, so there's lots of battle damage and "repairs". This also nicely offsets my dreadful modelling skills. :]
Have a look on ebay and search for 2mm x 1mm neodymium magnets there pretty cheap some whwere in the region of £3 for 50 but their bloody strong and will easily do the job, I'd recomend getting a pin vice aswell and a 2mm drill bit so you can set them inside the wing

Ah that's exactly what I was looking for. How many do you think I'd need per wing? It's not heavy or anything but I've never played around with magnets that small.
The thing about magnets is that they're cheap enough to buy in bulk and they're strong. I agree with the 1mm x 2mm Neodymium magnets and try to get the highest grade you can find (N52 possibly).
If you magnetize the wings and its not enough, you can always add more magnets. Pinning and two magnets per wing should really be enough.
If you're hesitant, simply buy the all-purpose 1/8" x 1/32" magnets. They're really useful for everything and I've magnetized seven eldar grav-tanks and three war walkers with them.
The ones I found were N50 and .12 a piece, same dimensions you both recommended. I was gonna get like 50, just so I have more than enough for my Valkyries and I can use the leftover somehow I'm sure.
Remember that when you are gluing, glue one at a time, and wait untill the glue has set before gluing the other one. I am magnetizing my Tyrant, and a mistake I did was I was gluing two magnets at the same time. Before I know it *dunk* the magnet flies across the models and glues it self to the other magnet in the hole. That was really annoying, now one arm will have to be a bit mutated compared to the rest

That sounds exactly like something I'd do. Good advice there, I'll keep them far away and go one at a time. I ordered roughly 3 per wing so hopefully they work out fine.
Random question masters of the magnet, will a drill work just as well as a pin vice? I've been using a power drill with a fine bit for my vehicles and to do gun swaps, it's done fine so far.
