I recently purchased some Roman Legionnaires from the Wargames Factory and received some ancient germanic warband miniatures as a bonus. Since I am working on an imperial guard army I have a bunch of lasguns lying around and decided to try mixing bits. Two things I am not, one a good modeler and two a good picture taker. After some 15 attempts I have one decent picture to show.
The picture shows three figures, the one on the left is all GW for scale reference. The middle one is all Wargames Factory minus the lasgun. The guy looks about the right scale but a bit emaciated next to the veteran on his left. I thought it looked just right for a penal trooper so I decided to show him here as an idea if other people already hadn't thought of it, which I sorta doubt. The guy on the far right is WIP for a veteran who had a glue accident. The head is from the german warband.
The lasgun may look a little big for him, but it may just be the angle or only a little bit. Looks good though, nice idea. Just make sure you base them well so his origional base isn't too obvious. See if you can show us more of the squad!
Looks good! Have fun with them!
Here are some of our Zulus as an IG army in progress:

I agree the one handed lasgun looks a bit awkward. The poses are nice but the weapons are just a bit off.

This was just supposed to be one of those things where you have too much plastic sitting around and go "I wonder." So the germanic guy looks a bit off. I included another picture of him. The problem is that the closest GW arm is the catachan, which looks way off for this guy, so the only option is to put the stray gun into the hand, which looks off as one person said because they weren't modeled to be holding guns. While the gun may look big for the guy, lets have some heart, he probably hasn't been fed in years.
However, since I have a ton of legionnaires now and someone asked about more of a squad, I decided to mix some cadian and roman bits. I was thinking something like the Vitrian Dragoons. I have the pictures included for different types, a standard bearer, flamer, grenade launcher, and lasgun. There is one guy with a germanic head who now has a lasgun all his own.
This is probably the last picture as I said earlier I'm not a modeler, I don't have a good camera, and it was not an intended project, just something I thought of on the spur of the moment after getting more legionnaires than I really should have bought (it was too cheap to pass up). My only thoughts to pass on are that the arms don't sync up perfectly, as the Legionnaires are a bit wider than the cadians. If anyone wants to try something like this for real you probably need some green-stuff and to focus on weapons that don't require you match up the lasgun hand.

i think they look canny smart if he is a penl trooper he is gonna be skinny and quite nearly dead maybe trim the las down a little so its bare bones really basic like they wouldnt give them the good stuff would they
