i have heard of land raiders with built in mp3 players and the like,. but as rediculous as the idea seems. i wanna do one! with the dow songs for the races in it. as it would be very ncie and cool.
where could i get the equipment from? and my idea is more of a memory chip like and just plug it into the vehicles and play. as the vehicle is inserted with speakers. i wouldn't mind using a mp3 player that costs £20_30 to be honest. as i only plan it for one vehicle ^^. which one i hear you ask? well either a chimera or a leman russ.
however, i am open to better ideas than mine.
Well, if I was going to go about something like this... I'm just kind of thinking aloud here, to see what ideas I can come up with.
The mp3 player would have to be pretty small. The power source would be the main hassle, batteries being somewhat large and hard to fit inside things. One of those fancy i-pod things might actually be the best bet, seeing as you then have everything in the one package (battery, player)
I guess the other option is getting a cheap one and pulling it to pieces, then working out some way to integrate it and power it. No idea on this, it would depend what player you got and how proficient you are with electronics and soldering.
In terms of getting the music out of the player and in to people's ears, though...
Probably the easiest way is an old pair of headphones. Yes it will sound a bit tinny but it's a plug and go option. Just have to have them pointing through a grille or some drilled holes and you might get a bit of sound out.
The other option is getting a small speaker or two (I've seen some around 20-30mm across in hobby electrical stores) which you'd just have to wire to a headphone plug. Again, this has the advantage of being able to leave the speakers inside while being able to remove the mp3 player if you want it for something else.
I think it can certainly be done. It's just a matter of how complicated you want it to be, I guess.
Hope the ideas help, I can try and answer further questions if you have any...
well i want it more of a speaker version to be honest and i would create a usb plug avliable in the vehicle discreetly so i can upload music into their. at the moment i know the simple parts of soldering and i know how to do it, but i think it would cost quite abit. i am thinking of using a cheap mp3 player and just sticking it in ther and finding small speakers as well. but the power supply problem, i have no idea at the minute on how to do it. except pressing a little hole to recharge it when i get home, because i won't use it for that long.
I really wouldn't be all that keen on permanently fitting the mp3 player inside the vehicle if possible. It just makes it easier if you want to transfer it to different vehicles. Leave a hatch or door unglued so you can remove it, or something.
I mean, it you were going to do it like that, you could just build a self-contained player and speaker unit which you can drop inside whatever vehicle you wish, rather than building it in to a particular vehicle...
best bet is getting the smallest speakers you can find that have a 3.5mm jack on them and plug it into your ipod then shut it inside the landraider
any other solution would likely be too labor intensive and no better in quality
Get your self some directional speakers, you have them on a stand or something and line them up so they are facing the land raider. The sound then appears to be coming from the land raider as it acts as the speaker. It will set you back a bit but they are very good.
I have a Fortress of Arrogance that has an MP3 player plug in, 1W amplifier, and LEDs. I have some pictures... Here. Waryammer • View topic - BaneBlade Lighting project. WIP. PIX Hvy!!!
That project has been nearing completion for quite some time. All it really needs is some highlighting and maybe a little more bling around the pulpit.
I actually have done this with a chimera before (don't have it anymore to show you pictures unfortunatley). But I'll do my best to help (if I understand what you want)
I drilled a hole in the bottom (wide enough for cords to run through).
Then you simply have to put speakers inside the tank, run the cords out the hole you drilled and put the back of the tank back on and plug your I-pod or w/e in.
Now if you want the tank to be the MP3 player that's a whole different issue.
