I am going to a tournament in late january, and part of my theme is that all the troops are mounted in a transports, but I still wanted a hard hitting combat squad, so on ebay I found 4x space wolf wolf claws and the torso's and the bodies of some dark angels veterans. Also I have a dark angels power sword, torso and hooded head in my possession already. So I was thinking make up the verteran bodies, give one the hooded head and power sword as the seargent, and give at least two wolf claws and bolt pistol. As soon as the parts arrive in the mail I will try and get some pics. What do you guys think? A good idea in theory?
I am playing a hawk lords chapter but don't really see anything illegal about mixing and matching parts, also will put them on resin bases for extra standout.
All comments welcome!
There's nothing illegal about converting your own models with parts from other armies, including armies such as Imperial Guard, Eldar, etc. Most tournaments only care that the model is primarily GW, and the model is WYSWYG. It's a good idea, I'm going to be doing something similar with my own Raven Guard veterans using the robed Dark Angels bodies. Just be sure to file away the DA/SW icons on the models!
Pics when you get some done!
This is the best update of my vanguard veterans I could do. I would have heads on them but after seeing the single robed head it was so good I am now paying $3 per head for the other 4 bodies. Entirely worth it but the supplier is currently out of stock . You can't see much in the picture but all the bases are resin and rocky/urban. So far these models are my favourite in a long long time, however I have never painted robes and it concerns me greatly... Hope the picture is ok, its midnight outside so the lighting isn't great
What, no jump packs?
I plan on buying the Dark Angels Veterans boxed set, for $22 for 5 models, it shouldn't cost me more than $44 or so (cheaper, depending on where I can get them) for a full squad of ten Sternguard. Not bad!
Looking forward to some bigger pictures and some more complete models!
I will try to get some better pictures today, gotta find that tripod to make it steady. Also about the jump packs they ahve to be themed, so these guys are zooming in a razorback with my captin as per the theme, might waste heroic intervention but I will survive This thread...
Is the army list which tells abit of the storey...
Yes!! Kitbash!!! Its is the key to sweet converted armies.Lol, great idea, I have a 10 man sternguard squad made from the DA vets myself. Used Nightlord heads and pads to convert a Vanguard squad as well. Like I said, Kitbash....it is the way.I plan on buying the Dark Angels Veterans boxed set, for $22 for 5 models, it shouldn't cost me more than $44 or so (cheaper, depending on where I can get them) for a full squad of ten Sternguard. Not bad!
