Here is my rendition of Ragnar Blackman, as entered in Golden Demon 2009:
(sorry abt the pictures, my camera does not have a great macro)
Here is the album:
And selected pictures:
I got some good critique - I had painted the armour on this model "old skool" style as of 2nd edition Space Wolves (the best reference pictures I had available) - a flat armour with nicks, scratches and detail would have been better, then the rune on his left leg would stand out better. Also, the left shoulder pad wasn't shaded/highlighted enough, and the backpack shading wasn't sufficiently extreme.
Far better than what I could ever do anyways. Grats on the mini, kithre! Guess you deserve some rep
Thanks LSA, it was a LOT of work to get this mini in the end I have been painting it on and off over 2 years, and TBH I think I could have done a better job if I had started from scratch in one session. Next time I will paint a Space Wolf in new style armour, and probably use a slightly more limited pallette.
Honestly though, I am very chuffed with how it turned out - I love the face on the model, and also the shading/highlighting on the jewels and the pistol. The gauntlets also turned out quite nice. I also attempted some directional lighting for teh first time, from the chainsword onto the gauntlet, wolf pelt and the backback, as well as the hilt of the sword itself. I imagined the blade to emit a slightly diffuse blue power field, so painted it as such, and think it turned out ok in the end. There was also some (not shown) from teh targetting sight on teh bolt pistol, spilling over onto the metal
It looks fantastic mate - I see what you mean, the pictures I'm sure don't do it justice. Good luck with the comp!
Lol - actually entered into this year's Golden Demon, didn't place, but wasn't suprised given teh quality of teh work that did..was still gutted though, as I hoped more than expected to place.
