Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi all just a little thread to hopefully get some advice on how I would go about achieving a convincing atmospheric entry burns on a drop pod when the colour scheme I am using is mostly black.
Thanks in advance,
You could go one of two ways...
1) Not all scorch marks would be black - you could use some very dark grey in places, just don't apply as much as you would if using black scorch marks on a non-black pod.
2) work it so it looks as if the paint has been burnt off - metallic patches tinged with the odd bit of red working up to white to represent the bare metal having been heated up.
Although my drop pod is green instead of black I'm almost to the point of adding re-entry scorch marks myself. Unless you've painted the bottom portion of the model in metallics I'd probably start with a grey base then work up to darker tones from there.
Here is a link that I found useful for scorching. Hopefully you may find a way to apply it to your situation.
