i need some advice on how to paint the warhammer giant- mainly the skin colour/ tone, have any of you got any ideas?
thanks in advance!
Do you want to paint it normal skin? Personally, I'd recommend a base of khemri brown, with a hind of red, and slowly shade upward from there mixing in dwarf flesh. A little more detail would be nice. Like what kinda colours are you looking for?
Spammies colours would be good. But which giant are you making? There are 4 available to make in the set, and each one could be done differently. The giant is also a very fluffy model, so his paint scheme could depend on his background. Give us some more info, then we can give you some more suggestions.
I don't know what sort of scale modeler you are, but when it comes to painting large surface areas I always turn to the trusty airbrush. If done by hand wet blending could do you very well and if you do I would pick up some sort of retarder to keep the paint from drying right away. I for one am not a have fan of wet blending as it does little to suit my style of painting but you can get a lot done, fast.
If you choose to go with the layering route, you might try to figure out what colour of skin you want first. I have seen pink, brown, grey and green skinned giants. I like the grey the best and to do that I would start with dark base coat of a dark grey and brown mixed together. I would then glaze and glaze lighter greys perhaps mixed with some pinkish flesh tones towards the highlights. I know grey and pink? but yes it does work well but to get a good smooth finish glazing with be your saviour (and I mean one part paint 7-10 parts water at least)
whoops i fell into that trap, i was thinking of painting it in a natural skin tone something similar to the picture on the box if that helps a bit...
Ok, so its definitely not a chaos giant. I'm guessing it's a mercenary for an empire force, or is it for an orks and goblins army? Anyway, these two giants would look good with ruddy, weather-beaten skin, as they are well-travelled mercenaries.
Blending would work quite well here, using darker skin tones such as Tallarn and dwarf flesh. I would start off dairly dark as well. Spammies idea about using some red in the base and shade layers would work really well too.
