So, I am making two armies with the same story line, a Grey Knight army and a guard army. My guard army will probably take GK's as allies usually. But with GK I figured a cool theme for them would be crusading knights, I mean come on, they pretty much are! So all my knights have Templar Icons and such, but Im trying to find a good scheme for my IG and I just cant get it going.
I tried all while clothing with blood red trim and boltgun metal for the armoured bits, put a little bit of blue wash in, but still doesnt look right. Then I tried party colored guy with right arm, left leg blue and oposite red. But still, just doesnt work. The one Im leaning mostly towards because its nuetral and I dont hate is a dry brushing of codex gray over a black base coat with fortress grey highlights and silver armour, but this doesnt really follow my knights templar scheme! Ahhh! Help please
welcome to the "finding a new color scheme" dilema!
I can certainly not give you the right scheme right out of the blue, what fits me will probably not fit you.
Some general method however:
try to go for a two color scheme (not counting black and flesh), plus a third one to pick-up some details and give consistency.
A color wheel (anywhere on the internet) will help you chose the second and third color based on your primary color. I you miss inspiration, then try those site which offer color assortments you may find usefull.

Well the common colors for the Knights Templar were Black, White and Red. The Templar Cross being red.
you could paint the Grey Knights a Bone White, place red Templar Crosses on them, and paint Shoulder pads and cloth black.
Red and black colours work very well with deamonhunters. You could paint the armour for the guardsmen black, and their trousers and sleeves red. You could work some white in too, like on the helmets and shoulder pads. Maybe not as much white as you would like, but this colour scheme has worked well in the past.

Sounds good, Im going to try that red and black and see how it works. Thanks. Also, Im thinking of modeling them to look like medieval men at arms with lasguns.. Maybe getting from Fantasy models, modeling on some tabards.. Any suggestions for that?
Personally, I'd paint the Khaki a leather brown, and the belts a darker brown. The Buttons would be silver, a definitely nothing to extravagant. And then the Armor would be a White with Red Templar Crosses on them. Don't think Medical Red Crosses - Skinny crosses, with shaped like a straight "t" And then anything fancier on the armor plates, say, the Aquila, would be in Gold.
Thats how I'd do it, anyway. Hope I helped.
