Hey there, new tyranid player here. I've settled on Hive Fleet Leviathan for my color scheme, but I had some questions about how to do that color scheme, namely how do I give my bugs white skin and teeth without them being the same color? What does the 'eavy metal team do to achieve the subtle difference in color?
A pretty time consuming, but easy way to do leviathan is;
heavy leviathan purple wash
heavy drybrush skull white
heavy drybrush bleached bone
lighter dryrbush skull white
The time is due to each mini taking about 2 hours to properly dry from a heavy wash.
The teeth can than be picked out using pure skull white, or a sepia wash for a more boney look.
NB: Mine look nowhere near as good as TamCoan's.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
I'm going to be doing a few of the larger models (got them ordered) so will be working this out soon too. The tips given so far are great and I may well be pilfering a few of them. I've painted Brother Goriel from Sace Hulk (he's holding the head of a Genestealer) and done the 'nid in Leviathans colours.
I ended up starting with a white undercoat, washing it with gore red and then working up the white in layers until it looked right. Fairly quick on something so small but we'll see how it is on bigger stuff.
