Hey guys, I recently got back into painting minis, and I decided on painting Blood Ravens (and Orks) as a tribute to the RTS that got me back in the game (Dawn of War II). Could you guys give me a few suggestions on what colours and techniques you would deploy? I've been using Mechrite Red as a foundation --> Red Gore as the primary colour (midtone?) --> Blood Red as Highlight --> finished of with an Ogryn Flesh wash... Seems to do the trick, but maybe you guys have better ideas? The shoulder pads I've painted with bleached bone, highlighted with skull white and washed with devlan mud, but I'm not sure if it's working for me, but maybe that's because I'm not good enough at blending yet (tips welcome). In fact, general tips for painting shoulderpads are welcome.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
It honestly sounds like your doing everything right to me. I paint my blood angels totally different.... I paint them in a desert camo scheme, with just blood red shoulder and black shoulder pads....
Maybe if you posted a few pictures of your marines, we'd be better able to help you?
