At first, I was going to paint my DE normally, with the purple cloth and dark armour. But I hate falling in line. Then, I considered using Bleached Bone to paint the chainmail and some form of green for the cloth areas. But I was pointed out that they'd look like High Elves, even if they are different models.
Following that, I contemplated using pinks and purples to denote them as a Slaaneshi Pleasure Cult, since I also have Daemonettes. Been done too.
But then it hit me, though. Nurgle Elves. While I did not convert them, I believe that a icky paintjob will do just fine to show my Elves as adherents to Father Nurgle.
The question is: How do I do this? I imagine Rotten Flesh might be a suitably disgusting green to paint the cloth with, but from my experience it leans a bit too much to white to be useful as such. So, how shall I proceed? Any advice would be appreciated.
Okay, so now I have no signature. Great.
Dark browns and greens for cloth, deeper colours are the product of stronger 'first batch' dyes and also an affect likened onto cloth when sodden and decaying.
Metals with a touch of tin bitz within them to signify mild decay, focused areas of washing to show more brittle and 'swollen' metal areas.
Paint the skin a little more pink than a traditional elf but wash with sepia tones to give them a sallow appearance.
Usually the 'general' way of distinguishing Dark Elves is lacquered armour of a different colour than normal, you could always have gone for green lacquered armour with dark chain link and light cloth with a coloured trim. The models themselves are very different from high elves, so confusion should only fall onto those incredibly new.

Rotten Dark Elves is an original idea, I've never seen that before. Try to do things like a fly-symbol of Nurgle on their banners or a spiky-Dark-Elf version of a Nurgle fly. You could also cook up something like this for their shields. Something to make them look sick will help too. You could paint their eyes completely white like they way zombies in films often get and like zombies people paint for Warhammer often get too. If you paint their clothes a lighter and paler shade then you could paint splatters, smears or drips of gunk on the cloth. A lighter shade of green or whatever will help with that because the gunk will show up better.
I like the idea. I think a bit of modeling to help bring out the "rotten" in them would make them look good.
Paint a test model and see how it goes!

Well, DE are supposed to be fast deadly raiders. Very slaaneshy. But, have you thought of a khorne flavor? Red and gold Dark Eldar running around on transports with the bones of the fallen strapped to them like the reavers from firefly.
I think it would look cool, and just make more sense then nurgle dark eldar.
Remember that Dark Elves do not worship Chaos naturally. Even the pleasure cults are not so much worshipping Slaanesh as they are allied with it's powers. There is no Khorne for the Dark Elves, they have Khaine instead, a bloody-handed god of War and Murder.
Nurlge Dark Elves would provide some cool modeling options, but it does seem rather strange to imagine them worshipping a Chaos god over their own.
As has been mentioned, greens and browns would work.
I'd paint a light green colour and wash it with dark brown, that'd give a corroded feel to it and take the tone down.
(And ignore the fluff lawyering, if you want to paint it like that, then knock yourself out)
Definitely do a couple of test models first though. See what's fun and looks good, then imagine painting a whole army like that.

I committed to painting a squad of these guys. They're done, pictures will be coming tonight (might as well, huh?). Expect an edit in not too long. Can't attach them, so look at them directly on my PB account:
Here, here and of course, here.
The first one is the unit lead when they function as crossbowmen, the second is the same when they are spearmen and the last is just a shot of the front rank.

I like them a lot. I'm a High Elf player and I would be a bit worried about going up against these guys. They look intimidating.
