Well deffinately don't go with more checkers..
IMO I think you wnet a bit overboard o nthe checkers as it is. Also the painted checkers having individual highlights seems a bit off to me. Almost as if you wanted the checkers to represent an actualy 3d pattern.
As to hazard stripes in lieu of checkers, I am not sure those would look good with the checkers present
However, a border on the jet pack with hazard stripes going around the turbine area, and then hazard stripes on the chainsword would have looked great, and you could still have kept the checkers on the kneepad.
Now when I say a border around the turbine, I mean a border maybe twice as thick as the distance from the edge of the turbine to the square notch you see on the left turbine.
Again, this is just my honest opinion, and is not something that needs to be accepted as doctrine.
The painting is good I think, I don't think that you need much more on the chainsword.
You have put a great deal of effort into the check and i think that they look good, maybe a bit over-highlighted making them too busy in general but they are alright.
The best way to tidy up the model would be to put in some green stuff down the seams and stuff, particularly on the jump-pack.
Good work and good luck with the rest of the unit.
