So after a dozen years without a sniff of miniature gaming or painting, I've got a few paints and have dug out some bits from the loft to paint. Soaking in Dettol (UK Pine Oil based disinfectant) made the paint fall right off some old pointy ears, and I've gotten stuck into trying to remember how to do this.
So far I've started on a few spearmen, a few archers and a mage.
Here's where I am so far:
I've more or less done the spearmen and I've done some of the mage. He needs a lot of tidying up and I don't have any oranges or yellows which I plan to build up the detail on his coat with yet! I bought 6 vallejo paints off eBay and am doing what I can with those so far... I haven't done his middle section details yet at all apart from to splodge in a few colours.
The archers have just got a bit of flesh and some grey where the white will be built up but here's the rub: I'm starting to like the grey on them. I'm very tempted to redo helmets and some details in grey (e.g. spearmen shields) and mix things up a bit. Very conscious that they look like every other high elves in the world right now.
Anyway, hello to Librarium Online! Looks like a good site to set up shop and learn a few things from. Please feel free to comment and help me along here as honestly I'm very much still bumbling through learning to paint all over again.
You still got the magic
Looking very good!
Yeah, I agree. Looking good.
If you go with the grey, you can add a lot more depth to it than you currently have with your slightly flat whites.
But then the cleanliness and crispness of the colours does go nicely in a HE army. Rank and file don't need to be *too* fancy anyway.
PS, not sure if it's me but the paint looks a tad thick on the face and the hands. Do you use a palette? if not, then do, and start to water your paints a bit. If you do, then it's prolly just me.
Oh, and welcome to LO!!

Thanks Jon. I do use a palette (well, a plastic lid...) and thin my paints but this is a new thing for me as I never used to do this. You can see with the red on the coat so far, I've only done it once in this colour so it's sort of washed out still.
I think partially I've probably gone a bit heavy handed here but then this model (assuming you mean the mage) is kind of chunky with the hands too.
Today an eBay auction came for more paints! I now have yellow, gold, green, a lighter red... it's a paradise of colour. Updates probably to follow next week...
Looks good BeeFace. You need to get painting those eldar though. Round bases are the way forward!
Looks very good! i'am for one glad that youre back to painting... those models look good! keep it going! '
