I was thinking of buying Fantasy Chaos Marauders and using them as a Fenrisian Wolves "counts as" for my Space Wolves, but instead of wolves, the unit will be a band of native Fenrisian warriors. My logic: before an engagement, the chapter will sometimes use groups of Fenrisian natives, usually by flying in via Thunderhawk and picking up a hunting party in the wilderness (much to the natives' surprise).
Native Fenrisian Warriors would have the same stat line as Fenrisian Wolves, and their running and charging speed is so fast because they wear little to no armour. To lead the group, I'm thinking of buying Canis Wolfborn and converting it to a basic Wolf Guard Battle Leader, with Frost Axe and storm Shield.
Would this unit be doable? The only concern I have is using human models to represent animal profiles.
I couldn't think of anything funny, smart, or witty to say, so I said this.
i had once the same idea, but then for an imperial guard army, to fit with my space wolves. i think the major problem is that other players don't like it when you use infantry instead of beasts. that's because beasts can assault 12 inch, and it would be strange to see humans who can't climb a stairs in a ruin but can run very far, he. though maybe you can use marauder horsemen, i don't know how many chaos markings they have on the horses and body's but they do have some awesome axes in their sprues to fit with the space wolves. i can imagine to see some native fenrisians ride on horses if they exist on fenris.
another option is the chaos hounds, my idea to make these is to make some armour out of plasticard the same way canis wolfborn has on his wolf. you can see above the front legs that is wolf has some plates, i would make these on the backs of the chaos hounds to disguise some of the ugly spots on there backs.
i do like the idea of some wolfguard in this unit to lead them. if you make a nice conversion, i don't think your opponents shouldn't complain about that. maybe you can use a scout body on one of the horse riding legs which might explain the 4+ save of a cyber wolf if you'r going to use it.
i hope i helped you, but i would ask some people who you play against some times what they think of it, because if they don't like it, you made some cool conversions for nothing.
another idea that could be similar is use failed aspirants that have transformed into wulfen. They would be beastlike, can still use a native Fenrisian tribesman look, and would present a nice opportunity for conversion.
