I wanted to build another table after my friends didn't like my first one. The trouble is that I am very indecisive and can't pick an idea to base my table around.ie: swamp, desert, forest, etc. If anyone knows of any fun board ideas tat are easy to create, post please.
I've found it's best to go with a suitably generic base for the board. Then you can add scatter terrain to theme it afterwards and this can be changed around to change the theme.
After adding sand and some cork rocks, I start with a dark brown (Scorched) basecoat. Drybrush Bestial Brown and then a very, very light drybrush of Bleached Bone to pick out some detail. Then I mix together black and yellow static grass to create a very dirty/dead grass look and glue it on in small patches all over the place. For a final touch, I use dabs of Water Effects (clear resin) in various places and leave it to dry clear.
The end result is a very dirty, muddy looking battlefield. Adding lots of trees would make it look like a muddy forest clearing, adding water features makes it into a swamp, adding some large rock formations and boulders with yellowish static grass makes it look like a desert... etc.
What didn't they like about your first one, and what was it?
I'm going for a desert board, as I've a load of egyptian-esque scenery that I think will looks kick arse when painted sandstone on a sandy board
@realitycheque, my first one was a giant river dividing across the table with two bridges and some buildings on either side. They didn't like it because their armies had trouble crossing the bridge while being fired at by enemies and also thought that it was too limited tactically. We've been trying to create a new concept since.
