Welcome to Librarium Online!
Following on from this thread (DIY Chapter - The Archangels.) I've just finished converting my chapter master for my chapter The Archangels, name Michael, but shall follow the ruling for captain Shrike.
There's still smoothing out the needs doing on his back in between the wings, but I'll attempt do that tonight when I get home from work.
Its also my first time with using gs on such i scale as this (normally i just use it to help stick metal models together), so any comments on what I've done right/ wrong with it would be more than welcome, bare in mind everything attached to his torso is stuck on with blu-tac for now!
(p.s had to use photobucket because the Upload File manager on the site wouldn't let me do anything =()
welp since no one is replying, ill give you my two cents. it looks like a fairly rank-and-file "normal" marine with wings. are there plans to spruce him up, make him look more chapter mastery.
All Chapter Masters need a banner! Although on him it might look like a giant spear thing, so maybe not.
An iron halo would finsih him off nicely and make him WYSIWYG. Also as stated some jewellry and stuff to make him chapter mastery.
I like the conversion and think you've pulled it off pretty well. The GS needs smoothing but as you said you'll do this its all good.
Also, looks like hes to one side of the base which could cause balancing problems, or is this just the picture/
p.s. what wings are they, I'm planning to make something similar for SoB and those seem prefect.
i was thinking of trying to fit an iron halo to sit like an angels halo, though i might have to have a play about for that; i do have a scroll case i was planning to attatch to him, aswell as afew purity seals, ive only just started playing space marines and ive not read much into their fluff so i do not know how best to make him look more like a chapter master for fear of making the model look too busy or innaccurate
for his wings i used the pegasus wings you can pick up from the GW site, i just searched wings and picked the most angelic looking ones (though now looking at the new BA stuff i might have to do another conversion)
Really cool idea man, I'm sure it'll look sweet once it's all done. If you're still accepting input about the actual pose, I'd take a look at the Chaos Raptor Lord (it's on the GW site), I think that kind of pose with such beautiful wings would look a whole lot more angelic, which is the image I'd be going for, an elegant celestial being, perhaps half about to fight half ascending to heaven or something. I don't know, just some thoughts, pretty cool overall though dude!
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
a banner would be a great idea, but you cannot just stick it on a pole on his back as a standing, ground based marine would have.
maybe a large T-shaped bar on his back, and the banner hangs down from the rear, like a large, elevated "cloak"? then it would not logically interfere with his flight (not flapping in his face etc) and would still allow you to make the model distinguished on the field.
Adding some cool scenery to his base might help him stick out more as well.
if he's flying, maybe some kind of rocky outcropping to denote his elevation?
I think he looks decent but just needs a bit more to make him more imposing. Some purity seals would work on him. You could also try some purity seals or robes, pieces or ornamental cloth. These things could be shown to be billowing in the wind which would help to make him look like he is flying and not just floating.
