I'm looking to get a some inspiration or some other ideas on how to build my Sternguard Squad.
I gonna use them in that list: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ml#post1664226
Feedback there is more then welcome.
I think i gonna change the weapon layout to 3 Combi melta.
My Tactical Squads are wearing the robes from the DA Veteran Sprues and the BT Crusader helmets to go along with the allied GKs, except the Sgt who wears the robed crusader one.
So the idea is basically to have the Sterguards in a nice that fits that style.
My idea was to use DA vet bodies, DA Ravenwing robed helmets with the cursader helm or the chapter champion helmets from the calgar set and the boltguns from the new Sanguinary Priests, what do you think? How would you build the combi melta?
Or what other bits would you use?
Well, I'm actually rather Lucky in regard to my Sternguards, my Core force has a Black scheme while my Elites has a Silver Scheme, so parts wise the hard part is coming up with enough Combi-Meltas! xD
But I have made them stand out a bit with more than just thier scheme, so for all my Combi Weapons/Bolters I'm replacing the Clips with sections of a Heavy Bolter's Ammo-Belt(from a Razorback's HBs) and I've made special Barrels/Supressors out of Plasticard tubing as well. I'm also using as many older style bitz("beaky" helmets and Corvis Legs for example) and just generally other 'unique' parts. I'd post pics....but I don't have a camera! xD
For the custom Combi-Melta, well I've had to build one already from a basic Bolter and Basic Meltagun...but I'm not sure I could verbally explain it too well! Sufice to say I feel it works really well, easily reconizable and all that.
Once I get my hands on a camera I'd be glad to post pics.
Well the color has to be a bit different, i definitely agree on that part !
I like the idea with the ammo belt.
I was also thinking about giving the ones that have a Combi melta a regular GK Stormbolter arm and but the melta barrel on one of them.
Regarding legs and such, if I use the DA Vet bodies I'm kinda restricted there, maybe I can add some details with Green Stuff.
Yeah, would be great if you could post a picture !
Thanks your your ideas.
Don't forget that the paint scheme can do a ton to make them stand out. Standard Ultramarines paint helmets a different color and paint on the laurel wreaths.
You could also experiment with painting on battle damage, or "writing" (you know, the rows of little dots and dashes) all over the armour, perhaps denoting the thousands of campaigns they have fought. Those changes alone would do a lot. Also, consider picking up spare plastic parchments and other bits that can be glued on. You could also pick up the SM commander box, which has a bunch of special shoulder pads (I think).
My friend found lots of models in his storage and is gonna start again, he also found two DA Vets that are really nicely painted, dark-gold armour and violet-black robes, it looks great, I think i'll use this colorsceme for my Sternguard, add some "writing" and switch helmets and weapons, and add some fancier shoulderpads and maybe a few seals, hope it wont be too much, i'll post pics when I'm done, gonna start next month i guess.
Is it possible to buy the company champion head from the calgar set as a bit somewhere? The crusader helmet with the feather top thinige?
Those i already use for my regular troops, guess I have to GS the feather thingie !
i've used the crests from this set for my sternguard.
Roman Praetorian Guard
you get 20 in a box set plus the special one for the commander, plus lots of nice extra bits. as for the boltguns i took some normal bolters removed the magazine and replaced it with some cut down storm bolter ammo drums and box magazines from the marine, and sisters vehicle sprues
WARMASTER of the SCHOLA PROGENIUM Alnwick Chapter (soon to be the world)
The picture is really really tiny, could you by any chance fix it a bit bigger?
Thanks a lot.
I'll probably pick the needed boxes up on Monday and begin converting, I'll put up some pics asap.
