Hi guys I am basically new at 40k and painting so I would like your help. I am going to go out and get some SM's and a paints. I want to do the Salamanders, what is the best way to paint them. Also what colors would I need?

Here is a guy painting one space marine from every chapter. I don't like his style but you might find it interesting and it might give you some ideas. Have fun and good luck!

Nice thanks for the help but as it turns out a late birthday present was a Pedro Kantor, some sternguard, Terminators and a tactial squad with Crimson fist paints so looks like I am going that way lol.
Yea I know but I see it as a good step in improving my painting as they have a very simple color scheme. Plus it was always fun smacking little green skin about the place when I was younger and I heard that the CF love it as well
When i started painting marines what i learnt was take your time and build up in layers with highlights. If you try to do highlights on marines with just one or two quick highlights it dont seem to work well, in my opinion ether resulting in too heavy or too light highlights.
Also i would avoid using techniques such as dry brushing on the armour as it doesn't suit the smooth surfaces very well.
