Right now i have a minor dilema. I have an 8x5ft foam covered board (its 8x5 plywood with 2x4 reinforcements and then 1 inch of carvable foam on the top). I was thinking about making it of a battle zone just out side a huge city. I would have a 4x5 ft section of battle ground area with craters and maybe carve a trench system in foam. And then the other half would be behind the city walls and would be the typical city fight board. What do you guys think?

Sounds interesting. A board that big would give the Tau an advantage. Them having long range and all. ^_^

Yeah good point. I really just need to start from stratch... that idea was from like 2 years ago when i started warhammer. I doubt my friends and i will ever play the entire board at one time and if we do it will be width wise with several players (marching from the long edge to the other long edge)..... I really just need some ideas.... its kinda weird shaped being 8x5 and all but any ideas would be welcomed.

The idea sounds nice, although the size is ...well um...wierd...
The idea of splitting the board is great, but also this isn't maybe the best thing to do. Especially not when you split the table with something as massive as a city wall... It rather makes for 2 boards then.....

For 2k points my friend and i play on a 5x4 usually depending on the mission setup. As for the city wall your right. It would have to be cut in half length wise (like a hotdog) and have the battle zone on one side and the city on the other.... I dunno the splitting board idea may have pushed it too far.... I need to get a fresh idea going.

if you are planning on making a large scale board i would still keep it 4 foot wide as then is is a fair table to play but go as long as you like then you can alwats play 6x4 if you want

I've never played on anything but 8x4 boards, except in 500 pt games or Gothic when we play on 4x4. During Rogue Traders we link the boards together, largest board I've played on in my local shop was 64x4, it ran the length of the store and it was full of Bio Titans, Great Gargants, Warlord Titans and all manner of war machines. Something like 50 people showed up for it. Giant battles take forever, but damn are they fun.

Alright... I might think about making a 6" section on each side that can hold dice, reserves, dead piles, and possibly drinks? lol Um anyways the reason i made this thread was to ask for theme ideas and layout ideas.
