    Painted Abaddon Conversion

I recently got a commission to paint up Dave Taylor's conversion of Abaddon the Despoiler. It is nice to see Abaddon getting an update like this, 'cause that mini was from way back.

    Anyway, here he is:

He looks like a dark god of war! I'm pretty speachless, there is nothing i don't like about this conversion / paint job.

Sweet job there mate I love how you didn't go over the top in terms of colour pallet; i can imagine you're client would be very happy with the end result. Can i ask how you achieved that skin-tone?

    Sure.

I started out with a medium skin tone (P3 Midlund flesh, but Dwarf Flesh is pretty close). I then shaded this in three layers- first by mixing a dark red into the skin tone and washing it, second by doing the same with a green/brown color and third by mixing the green/brown and red together and just hitting the darkest spots.

Then I reclaimed the surface areas with the flesh tone, but rather than highlighting up to a lighter flesh tone, I went to a frostbite super light blue color.

    That about sums it up.

He's well done. It's interesting to see how a special character can be made from other parts.

    Thanks.

I've received quite a few compliments on this guy, so I decided to throw him up on Coolmini and see what everyone thinks there.

    Here's a link, if you're interested.
