My painting is finally getting to the point where I would like to show of my models, even if they are just to myself. I dont have a decent camera, as you've seen from my scenery pictures, or else I would show you guys. Now I dont want a huge case, just something I can put on my bookcase in my bed room and motivate myself and show my fiance Im not wasting my money. I also dont want my two evil cats to get up and mess with them like they like to do now.
So what Im really trying to ask is, does anyone know how to make decent sized display "boxes" or cases using something like plexi-glass or some other form of clear plastic.
I have seen one that used CD spindles, showing 'Nids, doesn't work for Marines/CSM/Eldar/Tau. Noting really that tall and if possible if you know how I might incorporate LED's that would be cool.
If this has already been done, please show me where cause I couldn't find anything on the search.
Wondering if a glass fish tank might be a good place to start?
Didn't really think of that, might be a little tall for our purposes, unless you have a titan or two.
Well obviously you need a Titan to justify the fish tank...
If you were looking at making your own, the fish tank angle might actually a good way to approach from. You could use that acrylic plastic and whatever methods and glues they use for making a tank, except make it to your specific dimensions and perhaps fit some selves to it...
I have seen a few people discussing display cases recently on these forums, maybe a bit of a search might turn up some useful posts or threads?
I have display boards for most all of my and my sons' armies and I never thought about putting a case over the top, but it would be really easy with thin plexiglass. You could make your board and make a top out of 5 pieces (4 sides and a top) and just place over your board and models. Most places that sell the plexi will cut it for free (Lowe's in the US) just buy one piece and give them the sizes. You can glue it together with thick CA - just don't get carried away with the glue or it will fog the glass. Here are some pics of the Dwarf board I did for my son...

How to create one? it's now officially on my "TO DO" list.
I just did some shopping online for them...they're ranging from 500.00USD to 1,250.00USD
I almost soiled my computer chair!
It's time for me to venture forth and make one, and tutorial it. so others can forego this outrageous price.
Rome wasn't built in a day, Either should good scenery.
Sho if you were to do that I would come up to PA and give you a nice big hug
Personally I was thinking something like this 24" Square Pedestal Jewelry Display Case w/Clear Glass Door with Lock with out the pedestal, atleast look wise.
Im thinking about 5 pieces of plexi glass with a wooden base on the bottom that the plexi would fit into, I just dont know what to use to get the plexi to stay stuck together.
Ultra clear RTV adhesive sealant makes a nice job on fish tanks and would probably be good, watch out for plain RTV sealant as its not adhesive!
I once made something like this as a terrarium, the perspex slowly warps with humidity, not that you will be having plants etc inside. . .
I like this idea, looking forward to what Sho can come up with.
