I got a little look at the Dark Eldar codex this weekend and I made a small list based on the Hellion lord (basically allows Hellions to be taken as troops) and as many Hellions as possible (37 and 2 ravangers), I then asked about the pricing about the box sets, and basically it was too much for my little wallet (it was a guess at about £18 for 5, but thats just a guess.
I then happened upon a idea and to cut a long story short I wanted to try to make these guys YouTube - Flash Gordon Hawkmen vs Ajax (about 1:1 The hawkmen. (now before everyone says about swooping hawks, I just rarther the rules of the Hellions, sorry). I've sought of got the body, so to my question:
What do you suggest for the wings and the body? I don't mind if they are non GW as long as it can be quite cheap. Sorry
1st Combined Regiment. Contains Tallarn,Cadians, Catachans,Valhallan,Attilan,Armageddon Steel Legion and Vostroyan. Most Kills in one turn: 98 space marines and 6 rhinos with only the stompa's Gatla Gun (only that)
Couple things here. Are you sure that the new Dark Eldar rules will contain rules for a Hellion lord that makes hellions troops?? Haven't heard about that for the new codex. Second, do you know about DE Scourges? They have metal wings and are much more like hawk men. You could just use an army with a bunch of those. What will you use for bodies? You'll need a model that is dark eldar with a large 2-handed weapon, plus the wings...
With all the new DE models coming out, it seems like it might be rash to make an all-hellion winged army. Why not enjoy some of the beautiful new models and variety? This seems like a "good-idea-at-the-time" army that quickly gets old, boring, and repetitive.
If you're gonna do it, the Dark Elf Pegasus wings could work.
Dude i had the same idea when i got the new codex , got 30 helions in 3 squads , 1 squad of 6 jetbikes , 3 x ravagers , 1 squad of Kalibite warriors with Raider and the Baron for 1500pts (oblivously load of extra wargear which i wont bore u with). Results 2 wins 4 loses 2 draws so far . All in all i've decided to change my army because its so vunerable with these 5+ sv troops with toughness 3 that have no anti armour abilities.
So far i've just changed one squad of hellions for a trueborn squad in a raider with blasters and splinter cannons. Its made the army so much more versatile ,with One x ten man squad of true born with can have 4 blasters , 2 splinter cannons and the rest shard carbines, Silly amount of fire power that has a good chance of taking down anything in the game (as long as within 18")
