I had a hydra body left over from a previous conversion, so I gave it a new head (tortoise dragon head from reaper miniatures, HE dragon lower jaw, lots of green stuff to cover holes and make scales etc. Trouble is, I can't decide what to do with it now. It is smaller than the carnosaur and stegadon, but larger than a salamander or razordon. Any suggestions on continuing my project?
In light of zero responses I have a few ideas:
1. I could use it as a unit filler for cold one cavalry. It could take the place of 2 front rank and either 1 or 2 second rank depending how I position it on the cavalry bases. I could also put 2 saurus on its back. Would this create too much confusion? It would have the 4 front rank saurus attacks, and either 1 or 2 supporting attacks from the back rank (again depending on how I position it on bases). I could also link the unit champion in there for an extra attack.
2. I could use it as a horned one, but this also takes a lot of room in the unit and would have to have a lot of "counts as" rules.
3. I can just call it a carnosaur.
4. I can make a howdah for its back and use it like a stegadon. I think it is too small and un-stegadon like.
I'm leaning towards #1 unless it is too confusing for game play. How would you feel playing against the model in this format?
I think the least confusing for gameplay would be to make it a carnosaur, which isnt all bad considering your options. You can make your own old blood to ride it, convert the hell out of it and make an awesome story to fit, something along the lines of a sacred spawning; you can go in a very interesting direction with this and suit ur force around it if you so choose. As an aside you could also use it to make a conversion of similar magnitude in ur second army (if/when you get one) as the reason for this new spawning.
Either way its very creative and I like it, would love to see a paint job or even some ideas for how you might do it.
I like that lizard thingy you've made. I think that it would make a fine Carnosaur. It's ins't quite as big as the normal Carnosaur but I think it is close enough. It also resembles the Carnosaur the most and so will be easier for it to be identified on the table during play.
My oldblood carnosaur hypermega conversion WIP. Needs bling... and weapons.
Tail is from a current cold one model. Top of head is from reaper... some sort of dragon that I can't remember. Lower jaw is from DE Malus Darkblade's mount. By far my most ambitious green stuff undertaking. He's way bigger than a normal saurus (~ cold one sized), so I have to custom build everything or it looks like he's got toy weapons.
I'm still debating how to accessorize him further as he looks very naked right now.
Paint job considerations for the carnosaur:
deep gray with dark blue scales and black wash
scab red/brown scales like my other carnosaur
Yellow with pink hearts and a rainbow on his tush j/k
The old blood will be similar to my other oldblood.
