Welcome to Librarium Online!
a long while ago I bought an Imperial Navy Vulture. At the time I needed to make my own base for it, and I opted for a rather over the top effort which you can see in the thread I posted at the time:
Advice needed on making a good base for a Forge World flier (Imperial Navy Vulture)
Now, this was all well and good, however after this, the plastic Valkyrie was released, and accordingly, Forge World brought out a resin/plastic hybrid Vulture. Good for them! The most important part of this (as far as I was concerned) was that the new Vulture uses the flying base that the Valkyrie does - a much more practical affair than what one of my regular opponents refers to as "the cheeseboard".
I want my Vulture to use one of the new vases, so I'm going to have to convert the current mounting to the one the new flying stand uses.
In essence, my Vulture currently has a 10mm diameter hole about 200mm deep in the bottom of the fuselage, which I need to somehow change into this:
I'm thinking what I should do is try to drill down the sides of the existing hole so that it takes the flying stand, then stuck some green stuff in, lubricate the flying stand and then jam it in (oo err)!
An alternative that comes to mind is to fill the original hole completely and start from scratch, drilling a cross pattern of drill holes the diameter of the width of the flying stand top (I know what I mean) and then connecting them by cutting / filing as required.
Either of those methods is probably going to be very fiddly and a major pain though, so I'm open to any suggestions anyone might have.
Option 1 sounds like your best bet. Might be because I'm running off very little sleep and have yet another 14 hour work day ahead of me, but I can't really think of a good alternative. Depending on how deep the existing hole goes you may even need to drill it further to ensure that the stand remains securely fixed into the hull.
You might be right about the depth, I will have to see how far I can get it in without having to worry about splitting it in half! The model will be a bigh weightier than the newer version so I will be making damn sure the new base is secure.
Last thing you want is your Vulture toppling over!
Exactly. I'm determined to do it though, as I want to get another 2 Vultures in the future and I want this one to match in with them instead of looking like the clumsy cousin!
You can do it, best of luck!
