Quick question, what do you use to mix paints with? I currently use a paint brush but I find a lot of the paint is wasted in the brush and my pallet becomes quite dry (as its only a thin layor)
Am I doing it wrong?
I just use a "junk brush" to mix paints with. If they are drying out, you might make sure you're thinning them enough. Also, if you have a palette with smaller "cups," it will keep the paint from spreading out, which will help keep it wetter.
I agree that sometimes using a brush is wasteful. You could try a wooden toothpick. I've done that in the past. Some people also flip the brush over and use the back of the handle.
My paints all come with an eyedropper type top. So I can put the paint into the mixing cups drop by drop.
Usually, if I am mixing two paints together, I will purchase an empty GW mixing pot that seals up, and I will pour the mixture in there, then shake vigorously.
If I am just trying to thin the paint, I will eyedrop it out into a small little mixing cup... A bit smaller than the salsa cups you get at Taco Bell. I will then add drops of water based on how much paint I added.
I purchased a GW brush, and the regular painting caused all the bristles to fall out in the first hour.. I now use the unbristled brush to mix with. I find that the amount of paint that remains on the end is insignificant.
Yeah, if you're having that much trouble with using a brush to mix with, try using a toothpick or the back of a brush. Also, if drying out is a problem, you might consider a wet palette. Search the forums or Google it to learn more.
I use a very small hypodermic syringe( I think its called in English), no needle just the hypo, it helps me making the ratios rights, as I easily losses count when doing it drop by drop.
Also when I need to keep a larger mix wet I add some p3 mixing medium, and when I need to unwind for a bit I cover it a piece of plastic then it can last for a few hours.
