Welcome to Librarium Online!
I picked up a small unpainted horde of Orks secondhand last year, and after converting me some custom Lootas, pretty much shelved them immediately. I was too busy trying to get my daemon army (my first army) going... and then left the hobby completely for 4-5 months when life got in the way.
Well, I'm back and sick of deep strike mishaps with my daemons, so I thought I'd switch my focus back to the Orks for a while. For now, I'm trying to start with a squad of 20 AoBR Ork boyz painted in the Goff clan. I just finished my test model tonight and thought I'd post on here to get some approval before moving on assembly line style. What can I improve on the scheme itself and my technique? Thanks!
I'm not much of a professional, but here are my 5 cents:
the clothes look a bit plain, just black and I cant see any highlights (that could be me though) maybe highlight it a bit to give it some depth?
on the axe and gujn. the chainmail (or mithril silver?) line along the edges is too thick try to make it thinner.
but this is what I think and I'm a beginner myself so I can be wrong.
but overall I think it looks very nice, I really like how you did his skin and welcome to the waagh!
well done! 99 more to go for a proper army...
Green iz da' BEST!
Orkz is made fer' two fings! Fightin', and winnin'!
Definitely good enough for tabletop.
It's maybe too black, though. You might want to break it up a little. Maybe give 'im a set of leather boots? They're not that fiddly to paint, they're a great place to add mud so that your orks don't look like they just showered before the waagh!, and it makes them a little less monochrome.
Once you get them based, that'll take away some of that too, of course. Black pants and black shirt with some color on the boots and some color on the base won't look bad at all. Sure, you could do some highlighting on the clothes, but they're ork boyz; you've got a LOT of them to paint.
The problem with not making the lad all black: Goffs are all black, so he wouldn't be a Goff ork any more.
that's why I opted the highlighting, or maybe mix a very small amount of codex gray with chaos black for the boots, it will give them a slightly different color, but still black.
What colours did you use on this ork?
I'll break it down!
Skin: Orchide Shade foundation, built up to Snot Green, then highlighted with Scorpion Green
Shirt/Boots: Chaos Black
Leather: Scorched Brown base, built up Bestial Brown, leaving dark recesses
Pants: 2:1 mix Codex Grey:Chaos Black
Teeth/Nails: Bleached Bone, leaving Orchide Shade in recesses for contrast
Eyes: Red Gore
Buckles/earrings: Dwarf Bronze? I believe...
Silver: Boltgun Metal base, Badab Black wash, Mithril highlights (a little too extreme maybe)
This is the only Ork I ever painted *sad face*
