hey guys, I figured it was about time i posted this up... these charming red guys, are the blood ravens. i have taken them this far on my own, but i wanted to see what my peers had to suggest.
the questions i have are ! in an objective sence what do you guys thnk, and as they progress do you think they are improving or am i overdoing it? and 2nd do they feel like the blood ravens.
at the moment the point job is far from being done basic colours and some shading are finnished, as you can see work on the eyes and shoulder icons are in full flow. im hoping to have the shoulderpads done next, then im going to just production line the eyes and start checking off the fine details.. finally its going to get the edge highlights and a protectiuve layer.. give me your oppinions matt or satin varnish?
Depends on how much time you're wanting to spend on them i guess. I'm not quite sure about the eyes though, thats some funky reflections you've got going on there.
This is how i do my SM eyes, (not the only way) : YouTube - How to Paint Space Marines 6: Eyes
Skip to the last couple of minutes to see the pencil drawn illustration (makes it a lot clearer to follow)
As for varnish, I guess its up to you. I've tried matt with a gloss on the eyes however I didnt like it. It ruined the reflection I painted on.
Its very hard to CnC something when you say you havent even done basic highlights yet. I mean the purity seal on the central figure hasnt even been blocked in yet.
Good job on the shoulder pads and eagle though, both look great.

yeh, fair points.. hahah yeh funny syou should say that, i had only done 2 of the marines eyes, was testing out paint schemes, i wanted the eyes to be alot brighter and greener, so the mad manga highlights are going good to know others agree with me thanks for the vid ill have a look.. i am leaning towards a matt finnish, you know any good suppliers? i have an airbrush if that helps... the razorback is in mid painting of the red, once that has a few more colours ill post that up too.
i cant post it till sunday mostm likely but i have the highlights mostly done on a couple of the marines now, as well as most of the shoulder emblems... the whole lot is comming along quite nicely.
id like to make them some nice bases, something a bit utopic maybe, i was thinking green grass with rocky outcroppings and a small brook.. thinking along the lines of the contrast of the red green and blue.. i want something high cotrast to make them stand out better
I also only use Testors (though I use Model Master matte). I've never had any problems with it drying milky, even when it's raining outside.
At the beginning of turn 1, I spray my opponent's army with the bacon flavored spray. Then I unleash my Boston Terrier Squiggoth who then devours their entire bacon flavored army! There is no defense against her cuteness! All are doomed!
cheers guys, anyone know a supplier of testors dullcoat and while im at it things like VMC? both would be awesome
oh and an update will be comming soon. highlights have been started so we will see how long it takes to get them done and ill post after
thanks for watching
