Ok, so I am doing the paint for the bulk of my World Eaters (finally) and I have come across and issue. GW doesn't sell "Red Ink" anymore!
If non of you are sure exactly what that is, its basically a wash. But its red.
They have the "Baal Red" but its muuuuch more purple than the red ink is.
I have enough ink left to do maybe a squad in the style I am painting them, but I have 3 squads, a defiler, 2 rhinos, 10 terminators and 8 Raptors (just for kicks, not a competitive list mind you) left to paint.
Sorry if this is in the wrong area BTW, I just chose something that seemed close.
To get to the point, I need more Red Ink. I went to 2 hobby shops in Wichita today that have Citadel Paints and such, but they don't have any left. There is no listing for this red ink on GW's site anymore also.
Does anyone know of a site that still has red ink? OR know of a product from a different company that looks identical/almost identical?
Check on eBay or online somewhere for more citadel ink. Or try the red ink from cote de arms (sp) or vellejo.
I looked on Ebay, unless someone listed it funny there isn't any. I searched "red ink" but there were simply way to many items coming up for that for me to have patience for. hah
I looked up those 2 companies, Vellejo's site says the color should be the same. I will give that a shot if no one can get me a site that sells the Citadel stuff (I just want to make sure the color is the same if possible).
If I have to try there ink, I will make sure to let you all know.
There will be pretty much no difference between citadel and the 2 I recommended
I had a similar issue when all of the GW inks disappeared and were replaced with the washes. Sure, I got used to using the washes and think in most cases they work fine, but it does not have the same properties as the inks, which do require a bit more skill to use than the washes.
I loved the chestnut brown ink for leather and horses - it produced the most beautiful color over primer white. The replacement of Sienna Brown wash just does not cut it, so this is what I did...
I got a bottle of the Vallejo brown ink, which is a very dark brown (most other ink makers do not have a huge color selection...) and mixed with some Sienna wash and a little orange paint. Once thinned out is is nearly spot on for the old chesnut. In other words, try the Vallejo red ink and if it is a shade off you can try a little mixing to get is a hue or two up or down the scale to match.
I used to love chestnut ink too! used to use it for wood too as well as leather. In fact it was great on skaven fur too!
Anyway - back to topic - red ink. Vallejo will do fine - trust me on this.
I miss flesh wash I used for bone and everything. The new washes are very good for what they are intended for but the inks just had something special to them. The vallejo inks though are great and pretty much a good match for the citadel ones as I mentioned earlier in the thread.
Just spent a good half hour looking in all the various boxes of old paints and bits and pieces in the spare room as a swear I have some red ink somewhere. Would have been glad to post it had I found it. Alas I had no joy, I did manage to find some Chestnut Ink,Brown Ink and Flesh Wash though
Night gathers, and now my watch begins.
