Welcome to Librarium Online!
No pics, I need some advice. I want to start another Army.. (Yes, I know, the first two aren't even done. It allows me the option of changing pace when things get tedious).
Anyway, I am thinking of an Eldar Craftworld that is primarily an Ice planet. So Here is the paint scheme that I am thinking of.
Base Coat White.
Successive washes of a light blue and a medium blue. I want to create a gradient where the white still shows through for the most part.
Finally I need to highlight. I am thinking that if the minis are washed in blue, then even with the white showing through, it will be a stained white, so a pure white highlight should suffice.
So my question is this. What do you think of this color scheme and it's practicality. Would it convey an Ice Planet Craftworld? What could I do different, or what would make it stand out better?
Then for added touch, I want to try my hand at some freehand art for the wave serpents and other vehicles, but I am having trouble coming up with inspirational graphics. I was thinking of painting freehand ice shards, or even a broken ice surface from white tips, going to the blue back.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. No, I do not have a test model started. I still have to order the minis. All said and done, I will be spending $2100.00 on this army, and should be able to field it for an apocalypse game.
Seriously? No suggestions on the idea? I am just looking for input before I attempt this project. preferably, before I guy buy 228 figures and 24 vehicles.
Guess I am looking for feasibility of the paint scheme, or any comments from anyone that has tried something similar. Maybe images of iceworld schemes?
Honestly your best bet would be to try and get hold of a mini and try it to see.

i like the idea of the broken ice freehand, but i think a big white surface will be a swine to wash without it looking messy. if youre up for it, greatit could look awesome.
i think the infantry would look sweet, and the washes would be easier to do here.
One idea is is to gently rough up the surface of your tanks and models armour to give them texture and then give them a rough but solid coat of white, after that (and this will start to sound crazy) wash the entire model with Ice Blue and when that's dry wash it again with Hawk Turquoise. Finally dry brush the entire thing (and don't be gentle, give it a good thrashing) with Skull White. if you want to highlight both Fortress Grey and Astronomican grey will work although i'd go with the astronomicon.
