I am in a quandry. I was given some ogre models which I want to do something with however I do not have or want an ogre army. Now I have a guard army and a chaos army so this gave me the urge to convert them. Unfortunately I cannot decide how.
The choices are.
1: Ogryns, easy enough I think all I'd need to buy is bases and some greenstuff.
2: chaos ogres, again easy as I definately have everything I need plus the person in question had already started converting them to a chaos type of ogre.
3: dragon ogres, I've always wanted some but don't really know how I'd go about making the dragon bit!
Now with all of these ideas there are bits I'd need some advice on so as to get good looking models. This has lead me to now ask which of these would you create and how. Hopefully the ideas will help me make up my mind!
Thankyou in advance
No ideas anyone?
Anyway I've decided to do a unit of 5 dragon ohres and the rest are going to become ogryns.
For the dragon ogres I was thinking of doing cold ones as the bottom half but widening them out and greenstuffing armour over the widened joints.
The ogryns are going to join my napoleonic style guard and will have proper uniforms and shakos. I was thinking of using grenade launchers for the ripper guns but then thought I might try some sort of over sized musket.
Currently I have no pc so when I get round to the prototypes I might put up pictures via my phone which means they'll be a little rubbish but I'll see what I can do!
You only gave us 3 days to respond, and the forum's been a bit slow lately with people on vacation, away from Uni computers, etc
Anyways- I'd try to avoid using Cold One's mixed with ogre torsos, it'll look ridiculous. Cold Ones aren't very big (an elf model can straddle them) and Ogres are pretty wide. Most people go with Black Orcs and Cold Ones for their mix. It's what I'll be doing when I scratch up the cash.
I want to see the Napoleon Ogres though- I imagine them looking pretty cool. Put them in shabby uniforms, buttoned wrong etc, with cigars and lots of liquor bottles. Sort of the "ruffian" French veterans. And give them giant blunderbusses of course!
Well i dont think so its so hard to convert them to imperial guard ones.I would be using the plastics from the sprues(very thined by filing them)as armor. You can use some grenades from the guards kits too to stylise them. The only problem i see is how to give them their signature guns.Perhaps using storm bolters as their base and again using the srues as stocks. And remove their barels and replace them with something larger, plastic piping comes to mind.
Praise be to the Emperor!!
By easier I meant I have all of the parts. Sprue and rod would do well for the muskets will have to raid my empire bits to go for some blunderbus ends. The ogryns will be covered in greenstuff work. ( one of my sig links should be to my guard wip thread sadly lacking updates. Will hopefully start work on them this weekend! ( was gonna be during the week but life as usual took over).
Have started work on the ogryns (found a load of orc bits in my bits box I got at gd 2000 so my do dragon ogres with them instead!) The musket I put together looks quite good but I have a few issues.
The first of these was to do with the hands but I managed to resolve this with some careful cutting. It does look a little weak though so I'm not sure if it's going to need pinning.
The second is the giant musket. The length is good and it looks cool but I'm wondering if I need to make it more beefy. I used the blunderbuss from the militia sprue and chopped it up inserting a chunk of ogre banner pole to lengthen it.
The usual gun is so beefy I was wondering if a chopped down grenade launcher might be an idea for the middle section. Any thoughts?
Other than that I'm going to be doing so greenstuffing tonight to start the uniforms. I'll try and take a photo but caveat is as above!
