Any advice on how to paint glass lenses? I'm thinking that finishing with a gloss to give it a shinyness is key, but can't figure out a color that looks good.
Well, I think the first thing you have to is settle on what colour you want! A blue or green can work pretty well, purple too if you want a bit more of an uncommon look. I think the 'hot' colour (red, orange, yellow) can be a bit difficult to work with, so maybe don't pick them unless you're confident you know what you're doing.
Once you've settled on the colour you want for your lens, use a dark shade of that colour as the basecoat.
Using a lighter shade, paint a small crescent shape on one of the bottom edges of the lens (say, for example, the bottom left edge). Using the same shade, put a dot of colour on the opposite edge (so, carrying on the example, the top right)
Go on to the next lightest shade. Paint a smaller crescent within the one you've already painted, and a smaller dot within the one you've already painted.
You probably only need two or three shades, before finishing with a tiny dot of white where you've been painting the dot on your lens face.
Then you can finish with the varnish if you want for the extra shiny look.
I think that's the basic theory for painting lenses. It's similar to painting gems, and I found these articles on the GW workshop about gems, so if you want some pictorial descriptions check those out. (They're not exactly the same method I mentioned above, but you might be able to adapt it or get a clearer idea by looking at the pictures)

Hope it all helps!
Found a great method for gems.Though i aint got any pics.
Paint the gem mithril or chain mail.
Dont let dry too much and aplly the wash of your choosing over it,will require around 5-7 times though.
Had tremendus success with it!
