I'm new to painting Tyranids and I really want them to look amost as striking as the samples in the Codex. When I look at the carapace the painter somehow does this effect where the color seems to streak across the plates. A good example is if you look at the common bleached boned skin with red carapace examples that are displayed all over the Codex. If you look at the red on the carapace it looks as if there a tons of little black lines going across the plates. Sometimes you will notice they leave the middle of the plate more black then the rest. How they hell do they do that?? Just about every Tyranid pic seems to have it. Here is a link to an example:
The Hive Tyrant's head is a perftct example. I thought maybe they did a dry brush, but when I attempt this I get a powdered effect that doesn't have any of the black lines that are in between the red along the outer edges of the carapace.
Does anyone know how to do this? I'm currently doing Blood red on the skin with a black carapace with ice blue highlights. Basically the same color combo that you see on the Battle for Macragge boxed set.
Help and Thanks!
eeehh, i don't think you can post the same message in two topics, even if it apply's to both.
Take my words with a grain of salt, i am not the tactical genius i think i am!
Hmmm. I didn't realize that this would be breaking any rules as it applies to both forums. I apologize if I am violating any rule and I'll keep that in mind so I won't do it next time.
Back to my point of painting though. I wonder if I try painting long triangles of thin lines will produce ther same effect??
A single thread per question.
If you want to ask about painting techniques, post in painting. You want to discuss 'Nids in general, post in Tyranids.
Clarifying multi topic posts:
Imagine if I wanted to discuss the tactics for a converted chaos dreadnought I made?
*Posts in Tactics and strategies*
*Posts in Conversion*
*Posts in Chaos*
[All posts are the same]
Rather find what you want to ask, specify it clearly...and then post it there.
As an example [Using the Chaos dreaddy]
"I need help with finding a decent representation of...Nurgle's rot. Does anyone have any ideas? So far I've...blablabla"
Tactics and Strategies:
"I've been using dreadnoughts in my Death guard army and I've found that when facing certain armies they die in the first round. How can I maximize the survivability of...blablabla"
"In general. How do you Nurgle players kit out your Dreadnoughts and how to you use them against armies such as....blablabla"
Same topic...3 threads.
This is fine IMO.
Did I make any sense? :hmm:
Oh and I don't play Nurgle...
I'll close this one since the 'Nid one has gotten more replies and there is a discussion going on there. But as a note this would've fit more in the general painting discussion. So...I'm moving that here instead.
gewd...gewd...soon...I mean gewd.
