My friends and I have been playing for many years with various armies, and though I love building terrain I've always been intimidated by buildings. Foamcore is okay to work with but I've had nothing but problems trying to get straight windows cut out of them.
My solution is to only have 1 or 2 story buildings and most of those will be wrecked. I was also inspired to build a garage by thepete and his overgrown city. It's not nearly as good, but I will upload pictures of my table in progress.
My theme is an outskirts section of a main city... the part of the city that might not be behind some great wall of protection, and there is an element of crime and the general feeling is or a run down section area. I'm mostly thinking of outside Chi-town (rifts rpg) and Fallout 3 (hence all the references). I still have several small buildings to build because we'd like to be able to fill two tables worth of terrain and link them by two oversized bridges that I have built. I suppose the streets will need work as well. Enjoy!

I've also been working on setting up a blog to help us maintain a narrative campaign against each other. right now it's pretty unorganized but I think it will help us in the long run.
Warhammer 40k Campaigns
Wow, that looks great. It is quite cool to see a city that isn't a burning hole in the ground, but rather on its way. I like the different pieces of terrain and how the battlefield would feel different.
Looks pretty good! All the signs and advertising banners really add to the look, and that corrugated iron fence looks particularly well done.
Also, nice use of scrounged parts - is that a fire sprinkler I see being used as a fountain/vent/pipey-thing?
If I could suggests anything (I know you said its a work in progress still so you might be going back to such things) it would be that a few items and buildings could do with a bit of weathering. Maybe some liberally applied washes, some drybrushing with darker browns or blacks or whatever works in context... Those shiny tins for one stand out as all too new and unworn!
Just an idea though
This is pretty cool I like it good job.
"To Triumph without Risk, is to Conquer without Glory!"
Mmm nuka-cola, full of radioactive goodness!
Really nice use of different level terrain and lots of open space.
Awesome board mate. Reminds me of an old Necromunda board we did. We had a pie shop and a local "Guns-WorkShak"..... Even had coke machines we used for watering holes lol.
Love the Zombie poster.
Great job guys!I am especially fond of the train cabs in there(been a train enthusiast this helps)!
The whole thing looks like it got out of fallout!
Praise be to the Emperor!!
this is truly lovely, its so simple yet its one of the best urban tables ive seen in a long time, wish i had this at my local GW.
I appreciate all the great support guys! I almost have the streets done now. I have strips of thin cork painted black and gray with little yellow stripes.
My goal is to create a Warehouse/Junkyard/Train yard district with all sorts of seedy stores. The train car tops are old Lionel boxcars that I picked up really cheap, but I think they might be just a little small. I'm going to try and find some O scale since it's supposed to be just a little larger. Hopefully we'll get to play this Saturday and I can get some more (updated) pictures.
