Hey guys, got a question for you. I hope it's not against rules here or anything, but I'm just wondering if there are any alternative spray paint brands you use to base coat your models with? The GW spray paint prices are quite high, in my opinion, priced at £9.50 a can. I'm looking for similar/better brands that are usable and what you've had experience with.
In the past I've used the GW Chaos Black primer to prime my models, and as far as I know it's a black matte spray paint. I did a quick search on eBay and found these black matte spray paints here for a very good price. Just wondering if anyone's had experience in using these types of spray paints before? How do they match up? Main reason for asking is that I'd like to save as much on the painting etc side and spend more on the potential model count of my army, if that makes sense.
Maybe this thread can help others too who are wondering what other alternatives there are to GW spray paints.
So yes, what spray paints do you use? Just GW, alternative brands? I'd like to know.

I've recently switched to using a different spray myself. I found a generic black matte spray paint, as you suggested. It worked fine for me. It even had a more accurate nozzle that I could spray horizontally or vertically. I can look for the specific brand when I get home, not sure if it would be in the UK. But I think as long as you find a black matte paint you're not going to find much difference.
I know your in the UK, but I just use a generic flat black can of spray paint from the local home improvement store, and cost me about $1.50 at most. And and I dont feel like Im wasting it if I'm using it on a scenery project.
I use krylon flat black spray paint and I'm very pleased with it.
Krylon, that's the one I've got.
Not sure if you're into airbrushing at all mate. But I airbrush Vallejo's black/grey/white primer. The price is reasonable if you get it from a discount wargame website, you get a nice coverage from a thinner coat, and a bottle of it lasts for a real long time. If you're not an airbrush man, I had a crack of those Army painter sprays, they seemed cool, but for cost effectiveness then the lads who've commented above me seem to have it nailed. Good luck chap!
Night gathers, and now my watch begins.
halfords matte black car spray it works exactly the same for half the price
I use ~$.99 "Quick Color" by ROC Sales, Inc. (a subsidiary of Rust-Oleum. Inc.)
