Miko de Adamyetz
Alright, as the deadline has been reached and LordBorak is out of town, he's asked me to compile all of the WoC painting-comp entries into this one thread for everyone to vote on. Remember that every vote counts, so even if you're not a WoC player yourself (or even WHFB player for that matter) please give these wonderful minis some comments and constructive criticisms. But enough dithering - here are the entries (in the order they were submitted):

(only one image was submitted)
So there you have it - some familiar faces, and even some new ones, and plenty of talent to go around! SO GET VOTING, MAGGOTS, LEST I HARVEST YOUR SKULLS FOR THE THRONE OF KHORNE!
Wow great turnout and cool models.
Marnepup- Really striking colours, beautifully clean paint job, the blue and the orange clashed a little too much for me but I am guessing that was intentional and is just my personal taste. (I think your clean style would suit High Elves amazingly).
Miko De Adamyetz- This felt like chaos to me more than Marnepup, although possibly not as technically well painted. the skin could use some work smoothing out the layers but I love the banner. Great work overall.

Stupid Ipad submitted early and I cant see the pics and edit post.
Greatwulf- Lovely complex banner and some cool warpaint, the skin again could use a bit of depth but it may just be the photos. The entire unit must look very Braveheart, all ranked up in kilts with giant weapons.
Sonata1287- Like the lightning a lot, I can never get it to look right so great job there, the metals look like they may be a bit flat but I am just being picky now.
Zoinkboy- Very cool oldschool models, I dont even recognise them, it looks like you havent undercoated them and rubbed off some of the flesh paint. Other than that I really like the colour palette, the muted tones suit Ogres perfectly.
Immortal Scrub- I think yours might be my favourites if I saw them in proper light, they have hints of everything that I like in chaos warriors, unfortunately the photos or my Ipad makes the images too dark for me to be certain. Stupid internet.
Night System- That banner is amazing, it looks like a nightmare put on cloth, I couldnt paint that in a month of sundays it is incredibly emotive (at least it is for me). The models themselves are solid as well but could use an extra highlight here and there.
Great work everyone, I feel like a pretentious douche commenting on everyones entry like I can do any better. Good luck all of you and I hope to see more of your stuff.
AH! my precious Hordes!!! A good turn out indeed!!!
I was seriously tuck on who to vote for on this one. It wa a toss up between Marne and Greatpup. Then I saw Miko, Immy Scrub and was completely at a loss and couldn't decide........
So I'm just gonna rep everyone instead
Greatwulf gets my vote for a few reasons:
1. The hand-painted banner, really hard to do, but it fits perfectly with his theme.
2. Unique take on the Marauders, the Champion really stands out.
3. Blue tattoo's, I used them on my own Marauders, so I'm biased.
4. The gritty paint scheme, they really look like they have slogged through the mud.

They all looked awesome, though some really stood out for me:
Marnepup: liked the paint job, banner especially. Great technical painting, but it just felt like there was something missing, I'm not sure what
Miko: nice paintjob, a little too conservative though. It just seemed a little too tame for an army who's supposed to embody insanity. Maybe add some tattoos or Godly markings?
Greatwulf: love the tattoos, as well as the conversions and wolf on the freehand banner. I have to say, though, the lightning kind of detracts from it a little in my opinion. Maybe if you made the lines thinner and more dispersed? Nevertheless, I still wish I could freehand the wolf like you did!
Sonata: I personally like the paintjob and the lightning on everything EXCEPT the banner. It just seems a little too rigid and one-dimensional. As with wulf, I think it would benefit from a little less cluttering of lines and some more organic movements of the lightning. I do love the way you did it on the shield, though.
Zoink: I'm sorry, but I just have to ask - why chaos ogres? The models are rubbish enough that even the best painter in the world couldn't get them to compare with a lot of other submissions. Nice colour balance with the armour and skin tone, but I just think you could have picked a lot better models to work with.
Scrub: the other submissions are good, even great in some cases, but I have to say that these are by far my favourite. Effective conversions without going over-the-top, nice highlighting work and overall a dark, menacing theme to the models. The metal is light enough to be noticed without detracting from the dark overtones and the basing helps to balance out the models perfectly.
Night system: I like the variation in the colours and how the yellow balances out the darker parts of the model, but however well done the blood splatter is on the banner, it just looks a bit out of place. Particularly when it is the only thing with blood on it - not the weapons, not the marauders, the flag. It just seems odd, is all. Nevertheless, good job.
Sorry if i was a bit critical to some, this is just the way I see it. As you may be able to guess from the post, my vote goes to Immortal Scrub

Love the models guys. All of them are grat but two really stood out for me.
marnepup, awesome job but unfortunately for me they just look too crisp and clean for the character of WoC, imho i wud have given them a couple of washes, try a light devlan mud on the armor and cloaks, ashurman blue on the shields and gryphone sypia on the banner, sorry i should use the new shade names lol
For me the one that stuck out the most was:
Immortal scrub - loving the blue theme its a little bit different I mostly see nurgle or khorne round this part. plus i feel you really capture the nature of Warriors, loving the contrast between the dirty dark armour and the light fur on the cloaks plus the bases really lift the models and make sure they will stick out.
If He is For me, Who shall stand against me
Wow I've got some tough competition!
Marne: Very technical paint job. I'm really impressed with how consistent the thickness of the highlights on the shields are. A little too bright for my taste (but then again look at my submission), but a great job nonetheless
Miko: I really like the pale skin tone. In my mind it suits the idea of viking men from the north, and something I'll be aiming for when I paint my marauders (although how I'll balance that with my gritty Warriors is beyond me)
Greatwulf: Very cool conversions, very cool free hand on the banner. Certainly better freehand than I can do. I agree with MightIsRight that the lightning bolts would be better if they were thinner, but that could just be personal preference. Same with the tattoos, I think they would be better if they were thinner, but it's an idea that I will most likely blatantly rip off (and hey, I just answered my own balancing question)
Sonata: I'm really digging that lightning on the shield, and then blending on the back of the capes is fantastic. I think that if the bolts of lighting on the banner were similar to those on the shield, the models would feel much more unified. Maybe a wash of Asurmen Blue on the white fur would give some depth to the fur that still matches your paint scheme. Overall though I like these models a lot.
Zoinkboy. I feel like a wash of Devlan Mud or Badab Black would give these guys some much needed definiton. On the plus side though there isn't a single spot on them where I can find color that is where it shouldn't be.
Night System: I think a lot of people don't fully appreciate how hard it is to get a yellow that doesn't look like complete and utter crap, so kudos to you. There actually is blood splatter on the weapon of the banner holder Might I think that with the sword of the chieftain being such a focal point to the 3 models, that some blood splatter would have been good here too. I like these guys a lot overall, very nice job.
Hey Scrub, since you checked in I have to ask: how did you do you colors - your scheme looks a lot easier and more effective than mine does, and I'm not looking forward to painting up a whole army in my chosen style. I don't think I'd rip yours at all, I have too much Khorne to paint so I think it would be a bit tough to pull that off, but I want to know how you get those nice, heavy muted colors. Those guys just look like twelve tons of lead.
Boltgun Metal for the metal bits
Beaten Brass for the gold? Not sure on that one.
Hawk Turquoise on the capes and cloth
Black wash on everything
Chainmaile/ShiningGold/HawkTurquoise highlights where applicable
and you did the horns and feathers with a medium brown, Devlan wash, and flesh highlights.
Am I totally off here? I'm not as worried about the cloak/cloth colors as I am the horns and metal, like I said - I have to change the cloth for my marks anyways.
Really nice job everyone that enter, I voted for Immortal Scrub.
I look forward to the next competition they always make me try push's my skill further.
Thank you all for the great comments and critiques. Also glad you all like my first try at free hand, The lighting bolts were supposed to be thick that's how they look on my reference pic. As far the war paint/tattoos think I could of done a better done they were kinda last min was thinking of adding lighter shade of blue over dark blue to make the warpaint really pop just didn't think of it until later.
