Has anyone had any luck with converting Steel Legion troops to use equipment they don't normally have models for? For instance, flamers, meltaguns, vox casters, medics, and autocannons? I'm completely noob at converting and I don't really want to start cutting up models without some basic idea of where and how to start with it.
I love the look of the Steel Legion, and my platoons consist entirely of them, but I'd really like to give them some more weapon options. My autocannon and vox units are currently the Cadian ones and they look really stupid mixed in with the uber SL troops.

Replace the autocannon gunner with the SL lascannon gunner and put another SL trooper on the base.
For voxcasters simply put the cadian voxs on the SL troopers backs.
TO make a falmer take the steel legionare thatis running forward w/ his gun barrel pointed forward also. Take of the tip of the lasgun and of an extra flamer. Glue the extra flamer tip onto the lasgun barrel. you got a flamer!! (Optional: to make it look like he has it attached to his back take an extra missle launceher teams backpackand glue it to his back. THen find a piece of wire, extra modle bits to make it look like a tube connecting the flamer to the gas tank.) HOPE THIS HELPS!
I had the same problem with my SL troopers but, with some hard work, i managed to convert a flame trooper, a standard bearer, a vox-caster and a veteran (all for my HQ), all completed with great success.
Basically, you need a: model saw, some clippers and preferably a model file (but I did it without one).
Then you have to start to saw off the part you want to change, clip off the rugged screwed up parts, file down the surface and glue on the required part. I got my parts from the cadian sprue.
It is difficult, but the end result is well worth it for those individual models that make your army more characterful.
I have seen a whole army of the Steel Legion converted, plasma guns, meltagun and flamers, even rough riders (ok ok , it isnĀ“t a SL it is KriegĀ“s Korps army)...
DonĀ“t try to hide, i can smell your corruption...
I'll post pictures of my conversions for you, they are painted but you should stil get the just of it.
yea his flamer is pretty good i paly with him i think te idea making a flamer out of a lasgun is pretty gd.
I faced similar problems with my SL troops when it came to converting vox troopers. All I did was use the old vox metal caster, and pin it to a trooper. All thats needed for such a conversion is :- Pin vice drill, clippers and some brass rod - then drill a hole in the model that will be a vox troopers back, do the same in the vox caster, glue in a short piece of rod in the trooper and pin together - very simple. I did it this way, and now have 7 vox troopers, one having a master vox. My next plans are for a medic and standard bearer for my HQ.
