How do you cut the thicker parts on a metal model without chopping up your fingers? Is there a special way?
heheh , squeeze really hard on the snips......only kidding , you can buy a modeling saw off GW that will cut anything that needs cutting , or you could use a consaw or something like that .

The saw sort of works, but takes alot of time and can hurt yourself.(done it to like 3 models) From what I seen the best way to cut thick metal is a dremel tool. It is perfect for this type of stuff, but you have to be careful of where you cut etc.

Get a vise so you can clamp the mini in place. Then saw/dremel all you want.

have a look in your dad's tool box and grab his hack saw, they always work, and if it won't work on metal (i haven't tried yet) they are good for very smooth cuts on plastic, polystyrene, wood etc.
if you are reading this signature, then you are wasting you're time, and i am wasting my time by writing it, so run along now, jimmy, run along.
i wouldnt use needle nose pliers or clippers but a thin metal cutter or a junior hacksaw will work i dunno about a dremmel. and i agree never buy tools (including pva glue and super glue) except for maybe poly cement from GW they are far too expensive homebase or B&Q are much cheaper and proably better quality as well

Simply keep your fingers as far from the edge of the blade as possible. And always cut FROM yourself. This should help.
I kind of stopped cutting myself up after 150 cuts or something the likes of.
Put the model in a vice and cut it with a junior hack saw or sumint like that.
