I've been working on a new army. And I want the bases to look like a red-ish dessert.
Something like this:
Can anyone help me with making a color scheme for this. I've been trying with the old GW paints, but I just can't manage to get a satisfyingly result.
Don't know if this helps, but the red sand in the centre of Australia comes from oxidised iron, so it's effectively rust. With that in mind you might approach the colour from a different perspective.
Or personally I'd be looking at the FW weathering powders, Model railway powders or Tamiya come to mind.
If there are no reds (non with FW, don't know about Tamiya) maybe look at brown and orange combined. Don't know if you've worked with them before, but best to find a tutorial before hand.

If it isn't texured enough, just put sand down and then paint this over it.

Well, I've never used weathering powders, so I'll look into that.
The gamesworkshop texture paint is not to my liking actually. I'm not gonna use that.
