Hey all, i came across this pic of grey knight terminators on the GW site a while back and i really like how they are painted, but i cant figure out how exactly, can you guys help me out?
It kind of looks like Codex Grey with Fortress Grey drybrush and then a edging of Skull white and fortress grey, waht do you think?
sorry for the double post
Probably. Such technique is also known as NMM (Non-Metallic Metals).
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
I wouldn't call that NMM. Even though technically it's non-metallic paints imitating metal (although it could be just plain grey) it's too simple compared to 'good' NMM.
Good as in "hard to paint", I don't like NMM much myself.
I'd say it's just a black undercoat painted grey and drybrushed lighter, nothing complicated. The image is to small to say for sure though. I'd have liked them more if they had some gold or red, they are to simple now IMO.
I know they are GREY knights, but come on! :)
That's how I'm doing mine. I got really sick of the "Ultra-BRIGHT-shiny silver" you see plastered everywhere. The technique is just how Tubal said. To get the right effect, I use a really frayed brush which when drybrushing you get some of the "softness" in the highlight. Just start from the outer parts of the armor and work your way in. They might have done a final layer of skull white or 50/50 skull and fortress around the edges, but I'm not sure.
If you've got spare figs try out different techniques on them till you get it right. Then you won't have to keep stripping the same minis over and over again till you figure it out.
Just my 2 cents, but it hope it helps some.........
Imperial Fists- 2k+

Ogres Kingdoms- Maybe one day.....
i actually tried one today, but added some colours to it, and it looks pretty cool. What i did was do A BUNCH of drybrushing with Fortress Grey and making it darker by adding Black to and each drybrish i added a bit more fortress grey then i started ading some white to it. once i get my scanner ill send a pic for you guys
