    Local hobby store.

Buy obvious 1/32nd scale model kit. A german halftrack maybe.
Buy some other obvious 1/32nd scale model kit - say an APC of some kind, or maybe a missile launching vehicle where you can eventually use the missiles.

(your still way cheaper than a land raider for the two if you choose carefully).

Use bits from both kits and let your imagination run wild.

the only rule that you must adhere to with regard to building an ork battlewagon is simple: there is no rule.
It's an ork and such there is no limit on what kind of wheeled, tracked, legged or whatever kind of propulsioned mechanical monstricity you can create.

    Two words:
    TONKA TRUCK.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.

Hell, you could just get two Rhinos with the roofs left off, glue one on top of the other and say that it's a Battlewagon.

I bulit one for my brother a few years back i took two leman russ hulls and glued them togethor for the rear of the battle wagon and took a rhino for the front i cut the rhino in half and glued them togethor then i got 7/8 skaven doom wheels stuck them together and cored out the rhino hulls so that they would fit into it. i then attached the rhino section to the russ parts, the side walls were filled out and completed with plasticard with a small I beam glued to the plasitcard in a Z pattern on both sides and then built up the interior using plasticard of varying thickness to build the crew compartment the big shoota emplacements were the side sponsons from the leman russ with the sides built up a little bit these were then attached to the front and rear of the battle wagon the orks manning these were guled in from the waist up only, the front emplacements were mounted where the rhino and the russ chasises were joined this added to the strength of the model. for the big bosses position i used the back of a wartruck glued into the center of the crew compartment but raised up with two large I beams, the whole thing was further orkified by adding glyphs and a couple of spare bits from my dalliance with gorkamorka. all in all it turned out quite nice but it took 3 weeks to build and DID cost a bit (but hey me bro was paying for it)hope this gives you some ideas.
