Please take a look at the first model I've posted in my gallery. Any comments, critiques, suggestions, criticisms are most welcome. Unfortunatley, the smallest brush I have is a used Humbrol 5/0 & I don't have any matte finish so I had to use a semigloss varnish I painted on the model so please keep this in mind. Here's the link:
Thanks again for the feedback.
I hear voices...and they don't like you!
You have a nice clean look to your painting. I like the look of the "souls" on the side and inside of the cannon.
I would recommend possibly going a bit higher on your highlights and most of the parts tend to blend into each other. I recall someone saying in the past that if you think you have highlighted it enough - go 1 level higher.
I know that you mentioned that you didn't have a flat varnish. This would really help the look of the figure - in person as well as in pictures. I stand behind Testor's Dullcote. It works great.
Usually the flatter the varnish the easier it is to rub off - so what I do is hit the figure with some krylon crystal clear matte varnish (usually a couple coats) and then hit it with a couple coats of the Testor's Dullcote.
As for brushes - I also use the Windsor and Newton series 7 miniature brushes. They cost quite a bit more than other brands but I am still using mine after a couple of years and they still keep a point. Usually with cheaper brands you end up having to replace them quite often and before you know if you have spent quite a bit on them.
