As requested by some, here is how I do my lightning. [I in no way claim this is original, I found this formula and technique in much the same way you are now. Credit goes to whoever that guy was.]
NB: All colours have been approximated in Photoshop.
Step 1: [For Night Lords] Begin with a Regal Blue basecoat. Do all necessary highlighting at this stage.
Step 2: Make relatively thick (compared to later stages) lines of Enchanted Blue. It may help consulting pictures of real lightning.
Step 3: Make thinner, more random lines of Lightning Blue (Ice blue may substitute - UNTESTED). It is not entirely necessary to go right to the end of the previous colour.
Step 4: Down the centre of the previous colour make even thinner [random] lines of Skull White. It also makes sense to have more white (+lightning blue) at the point of origin than the ends. Again, it is not necessary to go right to the ends. If you have trouble keeping the paint thin and making it go where you want to, sometimes only painting it in the 'junctions' will suffice.
And that, my friends, is as simple as it gets.
Very Nice m3ntor. Easy and effective. Would great for my up-coming marines with their power weapons. That is when I decided what exactly I want to do x_X

Thanks M3ntor, I'm gonna start some lightning tonight! Well maybe after some of those juicy new OK Bulls I got today .
Hi, whilst I did my lightening the same way, using a numbe of colours, my NL are done midnight blue base coat as regal blue made them little too Ultra for my tastes
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Good tutorial there m3ntor... (Y)
You can actually extend the colours all the way down to black and build them up...
nice, thats really gonna help me with my power weapons
[40k] - Dark Eldar
Nice, simple technique, how i would have done it......although not as well as you.
Have you ever tryed doing this with other colours like red and green and decreasingly lighter shaded of grey. Black - shades of grey - white? If so how did this turn out?

what am I doing right now.....(checking)
Good tip... to bad I got no where to use it lol.
EDIT: My banners! Ooo
Yay! I may apply this information in the future, thank you! I may have to use Ultramarines Blue and mix in small amounts of White to get the effect.
If only I had a model to put it on. Hmmm...
Dark Eldar, rawr!
You know, it's slightly intimidating to upload pictures of my figures, considering that there are some people that are sooo good at painting, that it looks like I used crayons on mine!
