Yesterday, at a garage sale, I came across an old metal (says 1990 on the bases) Dire Avenger squad, consisting of 6 avengers and an exarch w. powersword for wirtually no money
My problem is, that a) they are glued on on the bases wrong, and I will have to remove them in order to set them right, witch might ruin the bases. Can I order old bases from GW? b) about half the squad seems to have been dropped or something, since their feet is bended. Any ideas as to how I bend them back in place? should I warm the metal a little first?
Apart from these two minor damages, the minis are in very good condition. They are covered in about 50 layers of paing, but hell, it is metal so i should be able to remove the paint without dissolving them..
It doesn’t matter how old the GW slotta base is, it hasn’t changed at all in my 10 years of gaming.
I'm not sure about warming the metal before bending the feet back into position; I just use some jeweler’s pliers and be as careful as I can be.
And how would someone manage to mount them on their base incorrectly? The tab, into the slot, how hard is that?
well... the slot is actually not in the middle of the base, and the i***t have placed the avengers facing away form the center, making them look bad plus they tip over real easy. I have now unbended one outof 4.. it works Thanks for the advice..
There are lots of ways of stripping back metal miniatures but I find the easiest (and least dangerous) is to fill a glass jar with Pine-o-Clean (don't know if it's available world wide - it's a cleaner/disinfectant) and soak the minis for 24h. The paint (both acrylic and enamel) falls off. You just have to scrub the deep recesses with an old toothbrush. A quick rinse under hot water and you have a clean, hygenic and pleasant smelling mini!Originally posted by Farseer Sareld@Jan 25 2005, 03:52
